Low GPA, high ACT, are my choices realistic?

So, by the end of junior year, I will most likely have a gpa around 3.6. My gpa was pretty low freshman year, and there is an upward trend, but a 3.6 is a 3.6....

However, I got a 35 on my act, and on my next test date I'm trying to get a 36. I have strong EC's, volunteering, etc, but I'm still worried about that gpa. Are schools such as JHU, Columbia, NU, UChicago still worth applying to? If not, around what type/rank of school would be realistic?

First of all don’t bother retaking the ACT. The difference between a 35 and 36 is so minimal that its not worth the 4 hours of test taking time.
Those schools are still worth applying to, especially if you have good ECs and essays; but keep in mind that they’re going to be reaches.

For admission, there is probably not much difference between 35 and 36 in ACT. However, it may make a difference for merit scholarship if that matters to you.

If you have good EC’s and recs’ than apply to the schools.
