@paul2752 I’ve considered that as well but wouldn’t my upward trend help? I just started junior year, but I’m not slacking off this year and hope to get straight As, so wouldn’t a good SAT score (taken in the beginning of junior year) and perfect junior year grades show a strong upward trend that would convince colleges that I’m hardworking? I’m hoping to prove that yes, I did slack off, but I changed in junior year and now I’m hardworking. :/

Your best bet is to apply ED somewhere like Cornell, it’s sort of a hook for the weakness in GPA. Forget about UCB and UCLA, most people who got in there got near perfect GPA. Only one person I’ve heard that had 3.5 was in 2006, the mom was in my yoga class and the kid applied to UCLA engineering major. She also only being in America for 3 years even though she was a US citizen. Do not list your IQ score or even mention it.
You may get into NYU(which is not hard according to our schools naviance), John Hopkins, Tufts, maybe Carnegie Mellon.

@DrGoogle But wouldn’t applying ED hurt me? Because then I won’t be able to send in my first semester grades for senior year before decisions?

@kittycatyeah as many people said or implied,
Upward trend, while it’s great, has its limit to cover disconnection between SAT and GPA(although you don’t have 2400).

You need to look at schools that love high SAT scores, like WUSTL. Scratch off top schools where GPA is the utterly important…like majority of Ivy schools or top UC schools.

Also, ED in Cornell(like many other schools) has better rates, but don’t apply if you
- are not seriously interested
- need financial aid-you can’t compare aid with other schools

<a href=“Getting SAT Scores – SAT Suite of Assessments | College Board”>The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board;

Uh, huh. The October scores will become available on October 28. You posted your miracle 2400 on September 29th.

If you stop BSing you might be able to ask some real questions and get some real answers.

@Sue22 Yes, but I already know I got a 2400 because I know I answered every single question correctly on the SAT. I also scored 2400 on the last two practice tests in SAT prep, so I can judge how well I do.

@Sue22 If you’re so desperate to prove me wrong, message me in a couple of weeks when the scores are officially out and I’ll tell you what I got ;D

@Paul2752 could you list some more schools who like higher SAT scores compared to GPA? What do you think about my chance at Tufts - Tufts is really my dream school, and if I apply ED to a school, I would choose Tufts.

Uhm…how on earth do you “KNOW” that you answered every single thing correctly? C’est impossible! Es imposible
That’s impossible! 말도안돼! I wrote the same thing in four languages because that sounds BS.

And…no, I don’t know other schools who like high test scores.

Kittycat, my oldest child applied in class 2008, had slightly better GPA by a smidge, maybe she had 3.6 uw, she had 2300+, great SAT subject tests, great senior year grades but she was girl applying to humanities major and was rejected RD. I too thought the senior year grades may help but really your junior year should be the strongest which she had, weak sophomore year, I believe all As or close to it. You shouldnt slack off senior year but it would hurt if you do. She got into Welllesley and USC early for private. Lower UCs like UCSD, UCI, UCSB. But that was a few years back, college admission landscape has changed significantly. Just look at the admit rates and you see.

@paul2752 Because I was 100% certain on every single question - the math was easy, CR passages were straightforward, and I almost always score 800 on writing

Nothing is 100% sure in this world, but okay…hope you actually got 2400 or close to 2400.

@DrGoogle I know, that’s why I’m so concerned - I’m scared I’ll only get into my backup (UC Riverside) and I’ll end up going there… I’m trying to compensate for my GPA as much as possible - SAT, extracurriculars, community service. My parents are going to hire someone to edit my application essays professionally, and I have already planned which teachers I’ll be asking for recommendations. I definitely don’t think I’ll get into these schools - I just want to know my chances for now.

Well, I can’t “chance” you reasonably because I have no idea what your official SAT scores are. I’m confused as to why you are posting different statistics on different threads; That inconsistency is making it very difficult for me to know what is real here, as well as your continuous defense against well-supported claims.

With that GPA…

Dartmouth, Tufts, John Hopkins, Cornell, Harvard, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon
Are all high reaches. I would expect almost certain rejection from UCB, UCLA, Harvard, and Dartmouth. There is a slim chance in the remainders, but I still doubt you would get into one.

NYU is probably in match range.

Tufts has a substantially higher ED admit rate (36% I think), but ED usually doesn’t really help someone with subpar stats gain entry to a school - it only makes it easier for already qualified applicants to make it in.

When you tell us your results of the SAT on October 28, 2014, I can maybe offer more advice. Nonetheless, as previous posters have said, a low GPA and high test scores can even be detrimental. It implies you are a smart student who had slacked off in high school.

@paul2752 well I guess I could say 95%, because it really depends on my essay - and thanks ;D

@kittycatyeah Unless you go to the Mainland or Korea, and grab those immediate SAT answers selling in the market and checked your answer (assuming that you rmb everything you answered…which is slightly impossible) AND happen to know a SAT essay marker and mark your essay to be 12/12, you won’t KNOW your SAT score. Getting 2400 is luck too, I got a few 2400 on my mocks too, but I would definitely not be so confident.

@Ctesiphon I’m not posting different statistics on different threads? And yeah, that’s why I’m uncertain as to whether I will apply ED or not - Honestly, when the time comes, I’m just going to ask my high school counselor and trust whatever she tells me to do!

You should add more schools like WUSTL, Vanderbilt, from my years on CC, they do accept non perfect GPA, like 3.3 for WUSTL, such as one of my daughter’s friend and I’ve read here on CC 3.2-3.6 for Vanderbilt. Some of these RDs, if I remember correctly.

@alafae You need a 10 to score an 800 in writing, not a 12. And I am pretty certain - I also compared my answers after the test with other kids, and our answers match up.

@DrGoogle I was actually considering Vanderbilt until I realized it’s in the South, but I think you’re right - I should probably expand my college list.
