Low Gpa high SAT help?

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could estimate what range of colleges I would be able to apply to,

My unweighted gpa is a little higher than 3.4, and my weighted gpa is like 4.1
I got medium 2300s on my SATS first time, and im taking it again in the fall
math sat 2 800
took bio/history sat2, yet to recieve score, but good estimate is 780-800 for both
I took really challenging classes, 3 ap tests/classes
My sports record/ecs are mediocre, and my volunteer is around 100 hours.

Can anyone give me an estimation of schools I have a chance in? My dream school is columbia. Thanks!

Your class rank is likely going to be too low for Columbia.

Unless you’re from an unusual state and/or are a URM, your chances are low for Columbia.

Your SAT puts you within the top quartile for test scores, but your lack of good ECs, rank, and GPA are likely going to hurt you.

Very important admission factors:

* Character/Personal Qualities

 • Class Rank
 • Application Essay
 • Extracurricular Activities
 • Recommendations
 • Rigor of secondary school record
 • Standardized Test Scores
 • Academic GPA

does class rank matter enough to put me out of columbia for sure?

What is your rank?

Did you note that you are low in three of the areas rated very important? Over 80% of those accepted are in the top 10% of their class.

Your UW GPA is going to show a lot of Bs from a school where your ranking isn’t high…that will nix your chances for Columbia unless you have some other hook…URM, from an unusual state, some unique life experience, etc

Since your GPA and rank are likely going to keep you out of ivies, you need to come up with a more reasonable list. You can apply to Columbia just to see what would happen, but your chances are very, very low. They reject 90% of their applicants. Why would they choose your application (and reject 90% of others) when there’s not much to recommend it?

Also, do you know how much your parents will pay for college? If they won’t pay much, then you need to consider also applying to some schools that will give you big merit for your stats. Otherwise you’ll end up with acceptances at unaffordable schools.

If you don’t know how much your parents will pay each year, then ask. you need to know that now!

However, if money is no object and your parents will pay for whatever school that you get accepted to, then great! :)

retaking the SAT will not do anything for you. it’s a waste of 40 bucks.

Last year, 93% of the accepted students at Columbia graduated from high school in the top 10% of their class.
