Low GPA/High SAT/Low Class Rank/Great EC! Will Chance back! :-)

Will be applying to a SCIENCE major. Most likely computer science. Not sure if that's an advantage or not

I'm a junior.

Asian Female, California

GPA:

Unweighted:

school scale: 3.6/3.7
standard scale (out of 4.3?): 3.3

Weighted:
UC Scale: 3.9
(not sure how to weight otherwise)

Rank:
Not shown anymore but I believe it's around top 20% :/ (if you weed out everyone who's taking Math 2 and Art, I should be ranked MUCH higher)

SAT: 2220; 680 R / 790 W / 750 M (missed 9 SC in reading. retake or no?)

Courses:
Freshman year: Every honors course I could possibly take
Sophmore year: Every honors course + AP World + 2 sciences
Junior Year: Honors PreCalc, AP Bio, AP Chem

ECs:
- Varsity Track 4 years
- 70+ hours of community service and still growing
- California Scholarship Federation (CSF)
- Own several websites [since 4th grade]
- Own several businesses
- Websites + businesses making thousands a year
- Starting nonprofit (still in construction)

(note: I did not completely program my websites/businesses from scratch. It will be submitted as a portfolio for my business but not as something I've done by myself completely. I want to major in Computer Science to be able to make all my ideas real.)

Hook: Nada, unless a teenage entrepreneur counts

Schools:
Main UCs (UCLA, UCSD, UCB)
UC Davis
UC Irvine
Cornell
Brown
Columbia
Cal Poly
San Jose State
Stanford (lmaoo)

Recs:

Counselor- doesn't know me, it'll be generic
Teachers- too early to tell, but will hopefully have one amazing one from my english teacher who's known for her recs.

Essay:
Finished it in 30 minutes but I have a year to fine tune the heck out of it . It really emphasizes my business + passion and explains my poor grades sophomore year + 2nd semester of freshman year

I think it's pretty darn good but we'll see!

If you really finished it in 30 minutes, I doubt its good enough. You don’t want to overemphasize your achievements, thats for your application.

If you don’t mind, can I take look at it?

you have a decent shot chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1041167-chance-me-i-will-chance-you-back.html

i doubt it too i think it’s comparable to a lot of top school essays. but i’m currently refining it and have a whole year

it doesn’t emphasize my achievements as much as my passion and love for what i do  my achievements are definitely in there though

ticorico- which schools do i have a decent shot at?

I like your chances in the UCs, I was accepted into UCLA out of state with a similar gpa and comparable sat scores. Make sure to take a few subject tests and make your essay the best it can be.

I also think Cornell is a good low reach, they seem fairly reasonable with regard to less than spectacular gpas.

(UCLA, UCSD, UCB)- Low Reach
UC Davis - Match
UC Irvine - Match
Cornell - Reach
Brown - Reach
Columbia - Reach
Cal Poly - Low Reach
San Jose State - Match
Stanford (lmaoo) - High Reach

Good luck! Chance me back?

Main UCs (UCLA, UCSD, UCB) - match
UC Davis - in
UC Irvine - in
Cornell - low reach
Brown - mid reach
Columbia - mid reach
Cal Poly - high reach
San Jose State - in
Stanford (lmaoo) - high reach

good luck!

Mochabubble, can you post your link? :-)

And I’m quite confused as to how cal poly is a low or high reach… Oo are we thinking of the same cal poly? It’s known as the easy school to get in at our school

But thanks guys :-)! I’m excited Cornell doesn’t seem to be as much a reach as people say

For Fall 2010 Cal Poly admitted engineering freshman stats:

Avg GPA = 4.03
Avg ACT = 31
Avg SAT = 1372 out of 1600

You can make the call if you think it is a reach or not.

But whatever your final conclusion is, I don’t think you can call it easy either.
