Low GPA, high SAT

I REALLY want to attend Pitt, but my junior year my grades really suffered. Specifically, AP Bio was extremely hard to tackle with my job and extracurriculars. I will end with a C+ in AP Bio on my transcript, which I know looks horrible, but there’s nothing I can do about it, and it brings down my GPA. I’m soooo interested in pharmacy, and I really want to get into an in-state 6 year program and go to a school that offers German (the foreign language I’m learning). I got a 1450 on my SAT (first time), which is really good IMO, but it contrasts with my GPA, which makes me appear as lazy. What should I do?

What is the GPA on your transcript?

Get your GPA up as much as you can the first half of your senior year and hope for the best. Most colleges weigh GPA much more than a one day test such as the SAT. The GPA represents your day in and day out attention to your school work and it is the best indicator of your performance in college.

Pitt may be your dream school, but there are many good colleges out there. Have a good safety school and realize that college is just a stepping stone to what you want to do for your career.

@Dancer14 overall weighted GPA is 3.7

@HPuck35 Thank you for the advice! You’re right. I’m just struggling to find other schools with both Pharmacy and German programs. I’ll find somewhere, though. I am studying over the summer (I know that’s nerdy) to prepare myself for next year to get the best grades I can.

How about this program at URI? https://web.uri.edu/pharmacy/academics/ipsp/

If you find that your admission prospects would be much better with your senior grades in the mix, perhaps consider a “super-senior” year in Germany through AFS or similar organization - you could take more AP/IB STEM classes at a German high school, become fluent, and apply with a stronger GPA and an improving trend, assuming your senior year goes well.

@aquapt Thanks for the reply; I’ll look into it!
