Low GPA High SAT

Study hard, Sparten, and good luck!

This forum is the root of all evil...lets troll!

hahaha goodluck man...and work next year and dont slack

thanks alot. btw i am wondering what uni are u attending sir?

most likely emory in georgia, 19th in nation or something

wow emory...impressive

Vehement, sorry to say but everyone at my school with low GPA high SAT's were rejected by Berkeley.

yeh but UC Berkeley is the hardest UC to get into...by faaaaaar

meh never really put too much faith into cal anyways. haha

how is ucla? thats my nubmer 1 choice

You would have a good shot at good schools out of California. Why not apply to those?

such as what schools king?

What do you want to major in?

vehement, go to the UCLA board if you want to talk about LA.

Berkeley is probably the hardest UC to get into right now, after the new figures, but they look at slightly different factors than UCLA.

For example, they will reject 1500/4.00 asians, and accept 3.2 UW/1100 SATI Hispanics who complained about "being discriminated against". I've seen it happen too many times to count. I mean, people who worked hard all their lives to get into UCLA get rejected while a random Vincente Alfredo gets accepted? I put 'decline to specify" on my UC apps and gave no hint of my race and got accepted to all, but I might not have been so lucky.

Thank God Berkeley's adcom is different.

I've been repeatedly told by a person helping me pick colleges (not a GC) that you have to write the 'victim' essay for Berkeley. Which is better for berkeley, marking decline to specify for race, or white?

To everyone saying raise your first semester senior year grades for UCs, it won't matter, UCs don't look at senior year grades in considering admissions.

However, here's a ray of hope for you.

I was upper-middle class Asian, no major hardships. None really significant ECs. I slacked all throughout high school (mostly due to online games) and ended up with a 3.1-3.2 unweighted GPA along with an F, several Cs, and the rest a mix of Bs/As. I'd bet anything that if I asked for my "chances" on this board people would say I'd have no shot at any top UCs.

My mitigating factors: I went to a very competitive high school and my SAT scores were 1530 SAT 1(around ~2250-2300 now), and 770writing/770 2c SAT2 scores. I wrote very strong, honest essays in my application.

I'm at UCLA now (also got into UCSD and the rest). After one year here, I expect to finish up my classes with a total of 8 As and one B for the year. In addition, I've been ranked number one in 3 of my classes so far (all out of over 100 people, in classes considered "weeders" for my major).

Anyway, that's just my case, I hope things work out for you.

Brand did you taake AP though ^_^

and ya i was thinking about my senior gpa because school finishes at jan 28th so i dont think i can get it in to my application on time. but if i had all A, it would have taken me to 3.5 >_<

Have you considered taking one or two summer school classes--getting A's-- as a way of raising your GPA? It might also help cover up your lack of other activities.

Will they still let me take like sopho english again? O_O

Now i need to confirm, does uc look at senior grades? my 1st sem ends on jan 28th

you can defintely get into some UCs with your stats...

3.0-3.2 GPA isnt horrible

plus UCs typically look at Weighted GPA 10th to 11th

is your 3.0-3.2 your cumulative GPA?
did you do worse in freshman year?
that might help...

if your weighted is below 4.0, then yes
your chances at most top UCs are destroyed but you can still go to Cal State and Cal Poly.. and UC-Irvine probably..
