Low GPA High SAT's and Great EC's- Chances

I'm a going to be a junior in PA.
Potential major: Econ & pre-med, Industrial and Labor Relations (@ Cornell) & pre-med
Grades (ugh): Overall a 3.46/4.0 UW, 3.91/4.5 W...I kno, it's terrible
I enrolled in too many classes and classes which lie out of my interests (my parents really wanted me to do comp sci but I'm a humanities/medicine person so, go figure)
I had a 3.66 UW frosh
and a ...3.26 sophomore year b/c of C's both semesters in Computer Programming (a really hard class and I'm awful at programming)
I was in tears after the C's because I thought that my dreams of a good school were screwed

In one of the best public high schools (Blue Ribbon) in my state
My classes are very hard, IB Honors classes.
I am scheduled to do IB Diploma, which is about equivalent to AP's, with an added thesis.

Tests:
In my PSATs I got 75m, 70v, and 65w. But I can improve these a lot with practice.
On a practice test yesterday I got a 80m, 69v, and 74w (a 223 total)
I'm enrolling in a College Board course and I should probably get a 2300 (I know I'm being really optimistic/snobbish but I think it's possible) without too much hassle this year

EC's:
I'm pretty good with EC's.

Made a charity that gave 25 wheelchairs to the handicapped in Haiti
Extemporaneous speaking (Forensics) National qualifier
11th in the State in Commentary (Forensics)

Ultimate Frisbee team.
Youngest student on the Academic Team.
1st place in State and Regional Junior Academy of Science competition
Undergraduate-level biology research at a university laboratory as a sophomore.
Graduate-level environmental research at a different univ lab
Could make ISEF this year.
I have like 150 Community service hours so far
Treasurer of my city's Indian Youth Organization
Science club, math team, World Affairs Club, Charity Club
Section editor in school newspaper
Classical guitar
Indian dance for 12 years
Published creative writer
Shadowing doctors

I REALLY want to do TASP (Telluride Academy Summer Program)

I think of myself as a good writer on essays but whatevskis
Schools:

My favorite schools are:

0 Columbia, but NO chance I kno

1 Cornell ILR and Penn CAS

2 Northwestern Weinberg CAS and Amherst

3 Carnegie Mellon H&SS, Wash U in st. louis, Emory, and Williams

4 U of Michigan (born in Michigan) or (sigh) Berkeley even though I might not even be eligible to apply

So can you chance me for:
Columbia (dream reach, probably no chance)
Cornell ILR (still really dreamy)
Penn (same as Cornell)
Northwestern (very optimistic)
Amherst (same as NU)
CMU (shouldn't be as bad as the others since I've done an apprenticeship and I want to do H&SS)
Wash U
Emory (I just really like everything about it)
Williams
UMich
Berkeley
?

“I should probably get a 2300 (I know I’m being really optimistic/snobbish but I think it’s possible) without too much hassle this year.”

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s unlikely to happen. Your PSAT score translates to a 2100 on the SAT, and it’s going to be difficult to raise that 200 points, no matter how much test prep you do.

Your EC’s are very interesting in my opinion. Graduate level research, published writer, etc… all pretty cool. If your UW GPA was higher, you’d have a shot at most schools listed.

But you don’t unless you can raise that GPA significantly. It’s heartbreaking, and I’m sorry to have to be the one to tell you. But a 3.46 UW GPA is unheard of at Columbia and Cornell unless you’re a recruited athlete or extremely poor applicant who had to single-handedly support a family. You’re almost definitely not getting into those schools with that GPA. I’m not sure if anyone else will tell you that, but I think you need to know. It’s really a shame because you look like a pretty interesting applicant.

Columbia - Very high reach
Cornell - Very high reach
Penn - Very high reach
Northwestern - High reach
Amherst - Very high reach
CMU - Mid reach (still unlikely)
Wash U - High reach
Emory - High reach
Williams - Very high reach
UMich - Low reach (You have a very decent chance at UMich. Definitely apply, there’s a good chance you’ll get in.)
Berkeley - Very high reach

EDIT: Sorry, I didn’t see that you’re only a rising junior. IF you can get all A’s next year, and next year is the crucial point for you, then your chances will change. These chances are for your current GPA).

I mean, you saw that I got a 223 on my practice test, right?

Bumpbumpbu

I have to agree with decrescendo… you’ll be able to predict your chances a little better after your junior year! Also try to take a few prep courses or something for the SAT if you want a 2300!! and take a ton of practice tests and stuff… that’s what I did and it worked! Best of luck and chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/955353-chance-me-some-ivies-duke-rice-vandy-gtown-etc.html

0% for all except Mich

Yes, I saw that on your practice test, but I don’t consider practice tests to be reliable when compared to the real thing. I scored a 2350 on a practice test for the SAT, then got a 2180 on the real test.
