Low gpa, high test scores...chance?

You will get in, probably  don’t worry too much.
My bf is accepted with 3.3 college GPA, 3.0 high school gpa and ACT 28, no extra-curricular activities at all. (he is accounting major)

As for me, I applied here just as a safety school.
GPA 3.76, IELTS7.0, Honor Society at school for 2 years,
have been on the Dean List for 2 years.
Teacher Assistant in college.
Volunteer over 50 hours.
Exchange student (1year)

And they withdrew my application just because they think that I wasn’t graduated from high school. I am from another country with different school system (I have a graduation certificate) but they said if I don’t have my 12th grade, I wasn’t graduated. Well, I called the office and told them the reason why I have no ways to give them my 12th grade report. They just asked me to go back high school for one year if I want to study at their school. 0_0!!!

Fortunately, this is my 6th choice of school. If this is my only choice, I would have been screwed up by their inflexible system. The admission lady was really rude to me too.

I would be interested to hear what will happen. Anecdotally… know someone with really high test scores (33) but low class ranking and got rejected. This is an Illinois resident. Unfortunately, I’ve heard other similar stories.

It seems to be that UIUC value ranking more than GPA or Test Scores. Almost like, if you have the ability to do well based on your ACT, but didn’t get it done, it almost ticks off the admissions people.

Anyone else notice such a trend?

Would it also help if I get a 4.6 or 4.7 GPA this semester? Because it shows that I have a lot of potential…
And my GPA has a consistent upward trend

That always helps to show that you’ve made more responsible decisions as you’ve grown up. Keep the upward trend!! Good Luck.
