Low gpa.. how can I transfer? :(

Hi, this is my first post here so i’m sorry if youve read this question a million times.

Background info I’m a 20 year old female. I’m from California. I went to NYU, was really depressed there (away from home) and seasonal depression and my laziness led to having a cum GPA of 1.8 with 29 credit hours. Well now I’m home and i’m trying to transfer and I’m sad because I worked really hard in high school and now my gpa is so low and it would take about 90 credits to raise it to about a 3.5 to get into a good school. Preferred major: nutrition science, exercise science, health science, OR Sport Management OR Economics.

Anyways any advice? I’m getting really good grades (all A’s so far), when transferring will this be looked at (that i improved dramatically after first year of college)?

Schools I’m looking at:
wont get in: HIGH: UCB - NutriSci, UCSD, UCSB, UCD, USF
probably: CSUF, CSULB, UCR
def: SDSU, CSULA

any stories similar to mine… or links, advice, list of schools I should apply to etc whatever

HELLLLP ME.

I take it you are at a Community College now?

Well, if you are getting strong grades and you can keep it up for the second semester, you should have a good case for the CSU schools. Of course your average GPA is not going to be great but if you demonstrate that you have overcome your first year issues then they should take that into account. Be careful about how many credits you need to transfer. It might be that they won’t take your transfer application if you have too many hours.

Call the Admissions offices for the schools you want to attend (include one or two of the UCs) and start discussions with them about your situation.
