low gpa, kinda high sat, high ranking

hey, Is the chance for me to get into schools like rice (first choice) , gtech and Virginia tech when my gpa is 3.52 (4.00) and qpa is 5.27 (out of 6.00)? I go to a quite competitive public high school in Maryland and am in the top 6 percent (out of 480 students ). my sat is a 1480 and am planning to take the act soon.

You need to list ECs and Awards in order to help us. ALso, what major? I’m assuming engineering or CS?

Your class rank and your school’s rigor will both help you a lot once thy provide needed contexte your GPA. You should be okay.

i am thinking of architecture

You’re okay. For architecture, your ECs and portfolio will matter strongly.
Have you taken AP Studio Art? AP Art History?
A 3.52 at a very rigorous school will be well-respected.

Stats alone, you have a low chance for Rice and a high chance for Virginia Tech.

Note, that your SAT is below the 25th Percentile for Rice(which means there are 75% accepted students with a higher SAT than you). And, your Unweighted GPA is significantly below the average, I would mark Rice as a reach for you.

@iwantcollegeplz

Thx for your advice. Sorry this is so late, I have been trying to improve my grades + fineness my way to college. As an update, I have a 1580 sat score and a 33 ACT score :slight_smile: I am very happy with these results. I have decided that i want to major in architecture and have added some schools to my list: UVA, USC Institute of architecture, Northeastern, Penn State, Syrucuse and Tulane. Rice is still my top choice but UVA is a very close competitor. I have 2 teachers (english and physics) that i am very close with that are willing to write me a recommendation. I asked them instead of my art teachers b/c i feel like they can write about my personality and my weird quirks better + i am very introverted and different when i am in art class or when i paint. EC: National Art Honors Society Historian (2018-19)+ President, 4 years of cross country -not that good but stuck with it- and i was FBLA historian (i also won some state awards for this club but nothing worth while). Common app: wrote about my inner conflict about my struggles with my identity. To give you a rough idea, I have an Asian name that is very long and hard to pronounce. Last year, I was able to apply for citizenship and thus, i was given the opportunity to officially change my legal name to my nickname: Alice. I talked about my culture, heritage and my journey in loving all the pieces of who i am: including my legal name. In the end I decided that I will not change my name in order to fit in but wear it with pride. If you don’t mind, what are your honest thoughts of my chances? If you need/want any more information, just ask. Plz don’t be afraid to tell me that i have a low chance.

Thanks to everyone who helped. I want to let you know that I got in :slight_smile:

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations. Your stats are good and like your topic of essay.
