Low Gpa, minority, demanding curriculum, any chances to a UC?

My overall weighted gpa is 3.1 and 2.99 unweighted,(ranked in the 30 % of graduating class) I am currently a permanent californian resident, native from Peru. My sat scores are very low, which is a result of the limited time of the sat and language difficulties(had only 4 years of english). however I am retaking the sat I next month and hoping for at least a 1750.
My sat II scores: Spanish(800) History(600).

-I have a total of 8 AP classes and 300+ of community service hours.

EC:
-Anime Club(4 years) treasure(9th) secretary(10th and 11th) Vice president(12th)
-Gay Straight Alliance(2 years) 10th(secretary), vice president(11th)
-Key Club member(3 years)
-Creative Artist(1 year) designed the school's literary magazine.
-Youth group leader at local church(2 years)

Senior Schedule:
Ap economics
Ap biology
p algebra II
p government
Ap environmental sci.
p english IV
Ap art history

schools:
Safety
-Niagara University(EA)
*would appreciate any suggestions for more safety schools.

Match
-San Francisco state University
-San Jose state university
-Cal state San Bernandino
-Cal state Domingez Hills

Reach
-UC Irvine
-UC Riverside
-University of la verne

*I plan to major in psychology or crimology.

So what are my chances? does being a minority help? any suggestion will be appreciated.

Being a minority def helps, and being from another country makes up for sat scores. idk much about california schools. but i hope that helped.

Anyone have any input? please!

Ana111:

UCI: Reach
UCR: Slight Reach

UCs don't care about your race.

UCs stopped taking race into consideration for college admission several years ago.

Why are you choosing Niagara as a safety as it seems to have little in common with the UCs? It would cost your family a lot more than would a UC and it would be hard to reach and in a very different area of the country in terms of climate.

I suggest that you look for safety schools in California. Perhaps St. Mary's, University of Redlands, Mount St. Mary's College, University of San Francisco and Santa Clara College would be appropriate. Also check the SAT optional colleges at http://www.fairtest.org/univ/optional.htm

more input please!

come on people, 130 views and only 6 replies!

complain s'more

bump........

anyone? please i need more input.

Raise your SAT score to 1850
Then you may have a chance at UCR
Your minority status will help you a lot in UC's, believe or not.
By the way, are you the first generation in your family to go to college? If so, that will also help you a bit.
Good luck!

Thank you, and yes I'll be the first one in my family to go to college.

I think the average gpa for UCR admits was a 3.6 weighted...UCr might be a reach for you...UCI will be a big reach since their average gpa was a 3.9 weighted for admits...but you never know..you're minority status and first generation thing might give you a chance at UCR. good luck

Thanks fermented!

Are you an ELC-top 4% at your school with a completion of a-g requirement?
If you do then, you have a very good chance at UCR and probably UCI.
I think that you will defintely get admitted to all the Cal State.
Good Luck!!!!!.
