Okay, if you've gotten through THAT...

This is where i THINK i stand...any imput?

UIC- Safety

Iowa- Safety/Guaranteed In[they have a nifty little thing where you get guarenteed in if you get certain stats...]

DePaul- Safety

Emerson- Match...depends on writing skills, i think.

UIUC- High match/reach

St. Olaf, Macalester, Carleton- Don't really care. I don't even know these schools. From what i hear, Macalester and Carleton are reaches, and St. Olaf is a match. I'm only applying here per request.

UChicago- Disgustingly huge reach. Like, whoa. Like... 'applying for kicks,' dream-school-that-i-probably-couldn't-even-afford reach.

Mount Holyoke- I really don't know about this school...they don't require your SAT or ACT, and are really into extra-curriculars and personality...but also grades(my downfall^.^) So it's sort of up-in-the-air, i think. A reach most definitely, though. Just not sure how much of one.

So? How close am i? Please?

Did you apply EA to UChicago because you may have a shot if you did.

EA chicago is not much better than regular, but I still think you should apply there. If you write very good essays, you have a chance... I think chicago is willing to put aside some of your shortcomings if you're the right kind of person

How is a 3.34 "20000 leagues under the sea low"?
You have pretty good ECs from what I see, and a 3.34 is okay (not for CC though)
Good luck!

That book wasn’t that good.

K, back to your… 3.34 is low for top colleges. Very high reach. So, yes, your GPA did go deep sea diving but I don’t know if it dived so deep that water pressure made it explode, since your ECs are good.

But GPA is still the most important!

is the 3.4 a weighted gpa? either way you’ll definitely get uic and depaul. judging from your writing extracurriculars, emerson is a good shot as well- you might also want to check out amherst if writing is your thing, that seems to be your biggest strength.

Now, if the 3.4 is weighted, UC and Holyoke are out of the question. If its unweighted, you might have a shot at Holyoke. Probably not the most fun to hear, but I remember being in high school. I would’ve appreciated some honest answers as opposed to crippling disappointment.

All that being said, still apply to all your listed schools (aside from the ones you dont care about. you wont care about the application, which will probably cause you not to be accepted anyway.) There is always an element of uncertainty with college admissions- sometimes their choices surprise even the experts. Can’t win if you don’t play the game, right?

best of luck! :)

THe original post is from 2006. The OP is probably looking at grad school by now.

probably, but its still a helpful thread.
