Low GPA

So I just came from a different country so my GPA is really bad. I was in India, and now I’m in my Junior year. Even if I get all straight As, my GPA would be a 2.9. Is there a way I can change this? Like calculating my GPA from 10th grade in a different way?

I will get a better SAT score to compensate for it if nothing can be done.

Not really. I wouldn’t consider a 2.9 bad. You can still get into some good colleges it’s not all about GPA.

Your Guidance Counselor can explain how your prior GPA compared to your class at your previous school. If you were still in the top 10% it shows a highly competitive school.

You can’t massage the numbers to make the what they aren’t, and ‘getting a better SAT score to compensate’ won’t work- if the two aren’t in sync colleges look for a reason.

Those two things are not necessarily linked! As Erin’s Dad asked, were your marks good in India? if so you (or your GC) may be converting them to a 4 point scale incorrectly. Throw them up here on CC- there are a lot of people with experience of converting Indian marks to US.

I want to convert it, where do I need to ask for it?
