So with the release of the March SAT scores, I found out that I have done much worse than expected on the math section (750), and I don't feel that it reflects my abilities in math.
I don't plan on retaking the test though, but I'm worried that the higher level STEM-colleges (MIT, Caltech, etc.) will look down on a math score that's not an 800.

Will a high-ish AMC score make up for it? Specifically, a 98 on the AMC 12-B (Should've made AIME but I went ahead and answered the ones I wasn't entirely sure about...)? I'm hoping that they'll understand that while I don't do too well on trick question-type tests, that the AMC should make up for it.

Will the adcoms understand?

Cal Tech’s 25th percentile for Math is 770. I suggest retaking the test if that’s possible.
I doubt if it will break your application, but it would not never hurt to retake the test (if you’re confident you’ll get an 800)

Will the 98 on the AMC be reported to colleges (I thought they only told colleges about scores over 100 but I could be wrong)?

If you want to go to schools like MIT and Cal Tech I, personally, would take it again. Those schools have incredibly high SATs that you might be a little outside of.

If you want to take it again I just wrote out advice (for someone who knows all the subject material) here:
