Low sat scores

i have a gpa of 4.0 and in the top 10th of my junior class but i can't get more than 1500 in the SAT. Can i get accepted in the engineering major at Rutgers of New Brunswick?
plz answer asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also i have volunteer hours and i have worked in my sophomore and my junior year

And i took 3 honors classes and i have all the recommended courses for engineering

Honestly, with that low of an SAT (assuming 3 sections) you have no chance at engineering. with a 4.0 GPA, you really should be doing better on the SATs. Practice very hard and take the SAT again, otherwise I doubt you will be accepted. 1500 is the national average for the SAT, an accepted student for Rutgers engineering has an average of 2030. There are many resources, both free and expensive, to do better on the SATs. Definitely look into them.

what about a 22 in act but i am working to raise it to like 25 or 26
is it better?
because i can’t work on the sat because i am not good in english as i came here in america 3 years ago
however i get in mat usual more that 650

According to the conversion thing I just looked at, a 22 is pretty much the equivalent of a 1500 SAT, so it’s pretty much the same then.

Did you take the Toefl test?? A lot of schools will accept that if English is not your first language.

@Roooma. Your situation isn’t strange, I mean I got friends in the same pot of soup. Take a moment and put yourself in the position of an admission officer, an excellent breaking record student at school but he/she can’t go above average in a public standard exam?!! Well some assumptions will haunt my mind; either your school has an inflated measuring Gpa system, or that you are just so over confident and you don’t take the pain to study for the SAT, or that you are not acquainted with the SAT yet and you don’t have the necessary resources to enable you get a 2300 in the SAT. Personally, if I’m in charge of offering admission your chance is just 50% or below.
Well, I will commend you really get serious, get the necessary aids to permit you get a 2000 or above in the SAT. You are a high achiever and I think everyone will expect much better from you. Goodluck in your next preparation.

@mytwosons rutgers will not accept the toefl because i have been in the US for more than two years

@dexter25 what about the ACT test because there is no way i can get above 1700 on the sat.
but i can try hard for the act to get like 26 does this raise my chances

http://admissions.rutgers.edu/academics/admissionsprofile.aspx</a>
Check out the mid-50% of the school/campus to which you’re applying. If a 26 falls in there, then you might have a chance; ordinarily, though, you’d want to be above the mid-50% for a good shot.

@bodangles i can’t get in the mid 50% thats why i am asking if i can get into rutgers with a low sat but i have high gpa and everything is perfect just the standardized test scores only are low

@Roooma. A 26 in the ACT and your 4.0 Gpa will surely get you well above the danger zone. In fact your chance will probably move to 70% and above, you will definitely have a good stand in engineering.Good luck

According to the Rutgers data for Accepted Students, the lower 25th percentile ACT score for SOE is a 28.

@Rhetorical13. Well said a 28 is required but then other aspects are taken into consideration too, keep that in mind. You might get candidates with 28 being rejected in favor of guys with maybe 26 or 27…many factors do play a great role…

While other factors play a role, standardized test scores and GPA are by far the most important for a large public university like Rutgers. I wouldn’t claim someone’s odds to be “70% and above” when one of those two factors are considerably below the 25th percentile of accepted applicants and the other is at approximately 50th percentile.

It’s true that people with lower scores can get in over people with higher scores, but I think the point is to take advantage of the ability to take the test again and do better to increase your odds.

@Roooma, just like what everyone else said, keep trying to score higher. But also don’t give up on applying. They might just give you a chance!

Strange, i got accepted in Rutgers SoE with an SAT of 1650 and ACT of 24. 3.88 GPA and few community service hours/only 1extracurricular… did being eligible for the EoF program raise my chances?

I know people who got into SoE with similar scores. The average might be higher but lower scores still get admitted. You just probably won’t get a scholarship.

Yeah didn’t get any scholarships althought my Fafsa pretty much cover the tution costs+the EoF program should cover the book costs. Only problem is that the College is far away from my home(nearly 2 hours to get there if i take public transit or about 50mins if i go there by car and i have no license/car yet). I’m thinking of maybe dorming there but i don’t really want to have a debt when i graduate
( with all the money im getting from fafsa+EoF, not counting any loans, ill have to pay around $6k-$8k a year to dorm). If i decide to not dorm there then i’ll most likely just decline the offer and go to FDU since its closer to my own place and the scholarships+fafsa cover the costs.
