i was dismayed to even come here at first because ppl were booing 1400s... it kinda sucks because a 1400 is great for any school.

amnesia, I unno this kid I know got 760m 720v and he's taking it over because he wants to go into one of those 7 year med programs (the average to most is 1480, or so he says)...

I got a 1400 after 3 tries, i guess i belong here too!!! 600v!!!!! (believe it or not, i am not as dumb as i sound!!!!) why do they test u in verbal anyway!!! critical reading should be banned in all states including Canada (which is where i am). The SAT isn't fair!!! how can table and province mean different things in the U.S.???? can't believe it!!!!!
My life is ruinned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1400!!!! :( :( :( this system is so f#$%#$ up!!!! F#$%@#$ SAT, who do they think they are???

i belong here! 1290 sat i (660v 630m)

and currently 540 math ic (30 percentile)...until COLLEGEBOARD decides to show me my new scores....

if you're unhappy with your sat score, i say take the act.
anyway, i went from a 1230 to a 1300 to a 1380, and i couldn't be happier! when i saw my october sat score (1380) i almost screamed in the library! :) i was sooooo proud of myself! i skipped down the hallway and called my dad. he was just as excited as i was.
by the way, for all of those with "low" sat scores, please look at the percentiles. someone who gets a 1490 has the exact same percentage as someone with a 1600. a 1300 is an 87%! so for all of those w/scores below 1400 rock on!

woah...a 1490 and a 1600 are not the same thing chelsea...

low sat scorers..yeahh..hehe in the 1200s:(..o well who gives..takin it again....btw...r u guys applyin to ivys..nd what else do u guys have..like that makes u unique

sexy: you can find info like that in the Ivy leagues forums and in the "what are my chances" forums.

What Chelsea meant is that a 1600 and a 1480 are both in the 99th percentile. Besides, it's a matter of of only a few questions, give or take a few.

well actually i didint wanna know bout the 1400s and 1500s who are applyin..i wanted to know bout u guys..

sexydesi, yes I am applying to some Ivies. I have a ton of stuff behind be besie a measly SAT.

I need to bring my 1240 to a 1350, and I am certain to get into Dartmouth.

you kids, i have a 1140

Low...medium...high... it's all relative to the opinion that EACH one of you has.

One thing is certain: most colleges do not look at (what THEY consider) a not-too-great SAT score, and use it to reject an applicant who has otherwise impressed them as a teriffic person and student. Incredible essays, grades, recommendations, and genuine interest in the college---all go a long way to soften up an adcom.

But if you have a "low" SAT and your entire application file still manages to leave the adcom feeling like they really don't KNOW YOU... then you really are hurting.

You may not be able to boost your SAT or your grades... but you can make sure that an adcom knows who you are and what you are all about.

sexydesi, yes I'm not letting my "horrendous" 1220 keep me from applying to UPenn. I agree with amnesia, I feel I have other strong qualifications to back me up. A very solid GPA, strong EC's, good rec letters, and hopefully a good essay. I'm hoping these will all serve to help the overall picture. Of course I'm hoping that my scores went up in the Oct SAT...but I'll have to wait till the CB decides to post them! I also took the ACT to see if I do any better. I HATE standarized tests!!!

ahhh well GOOD LUCK fastlane and amnesia..i am too applyin to ivys..i hate regretting things..soo what the heck..and ya know what..our sat scores arent bad..they are decent..soo i dont mind..we should post after ..to find out if we actually got into the colleges..heh..ehhh..:

Same here, Chelsea! I kept staring at the screen and I was like, "wait...7 plus 6 equals...13!!!" I had just been stuck in the 12's for so long that I was thrilled to be able to get into the 13's, let alone a 1380. I think I would have been happy with a 1300 (up 30 from the first score). Lucky thirteen!

I have a low score: 1350...especially since I want to get into an Ivy. LOL being an URM and 1st generation won't even save me. Good thing I get to take it over. I think I can get a 1450. I just don't like the SAT. I wish there was something else. Low SAT I scores, unite!!

Edit to say: I would never want to get into a school because I am a first generation student or URM. I want to get in on my own merits. I was joking.

yes yes this might sound totally stupid..i think i know what it means..whats an URM?..

Underrepresented minority

I'm an African American male.

Amnesia. No one except for a 1600 3*800 Valedictorian URM is guaranteed to get into Dartmouth or any other upper Ivy. And getting a 1350, no matter how impressive the rest of your stuff is, certainly won't guarantee it. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just hoping to give you a bit of a reality check. People with massive EC's and 1600's get rejected from places like Dartmouth all the time. Also remember that Ivies still use AI. The SAT I counts for 1/3 of your Academic Index, which in turn counts for more than half of your total admissions consideration. If you read A is For Admissions you'll see that none but a 230+ (the highest possible with a 1350 is 228 even with Valedictorian Status and 3 800's on the SAT II's) is a guaranteed admit at Dartmouth. And admissions standards have undoubtedly become tougher since then. If you say you have good factors others then scores, then you undoubtedly have a good shot, but guaranteed is too strong. Try for a 1400+. Best of luck.
