Hey, guy. I’m going to just cut to the chase and say that my stats aren’t that great. I’m a senior at an early college and I just wanted some input.
UW GPA: 3.3 (high upward trend)
ACT: 30
My school doesn’t do ranks or weighted gpa. We also don’t have honors or AP since we’re taking all college classes.
EC’s:
Attended the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion program
President of Girls Who Code Club
Newspaper Editor
President and Founder of the Care Packages for the Homeless Club
Volunteered as a Youth Counselor at a religious center
Coded an autism quiz app where all the proceeds go to charity.
I also built a website where I put a portfolio for both computer science related work and creative/journalistic work.
The schools I’m applying to are:
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Albany
SUNY Buffalo State
SUNY Stony brook
City College of New York
Adelphi
Clark
St. John’s University
NYU
John Hopkins
Barnard
I know the last three are definite high reaches but what about the rest?
Have you run the NPC’s? Do you need merit aid (your parents can’t pay their efc) or financial aid (your family makes under 75k)?
Are you a nys resident? If so, are you applying eop /heop anywhere?
I think you’d do better at a LAC where your ec 's would be given more weight.
What about Connecticut College or Skidmore for meet need reaches ?
You’re in at buff state (or are you applying to Suny buffalo? Not the same college.)
You’re in at Adelphi but their financial aid is bad; ccny and sju are OK but ccny is primarily commuter and sju is uneven academically and has lousy aid.
@joeyl11 Congratulations on the acceptance! And ah thanks I’m just really nervous.
@MYOS1634 I am a NYS resident but I’m not applying eop/heop anywhere. I feel like you’re definitely right about applying to LAC. About SUNY Buffalo/Buffalo State, I am applying to SUNY Buffalo but on the common app it says SUNY Buffalo State. I’m going to look at RPI and WPI. Thanks for replying!
I’m going for computer science but there is a slight chance I do undecided. I was talking to two different counselors who were like so if you’re worried about grades put undecided but if you’re passionate about comp sci put comp sci. What about you?
Make sure it wasn’t a mistake because Suny buffalo State isn’t Suny buffalo. Suny Buffalo is great for CS, Buffalo State not so much.
All in all I think your odds are good.
Also, you could get the stem scholarship
^ that could give OP advanced standing (but early college students should always apply as freshmen unless specifically told by the University itself, because they took those efore hs graduation and because that makes them eligible for more scholarships).
The more selective the university, the less the credits are likely to ‘count’ though.
