Lower-Division Institution -- Transfer Question

Hello! I am going into my 3rd semester at Texas A&M University - College Station. As a senior in high school I was 2nd in my class, (top 10%) and therefore granted automatic admission to the University of Texas at Austin. I applied to transfer to UT from A&M for fall 2014 but was denied because my GPA was only a 3.26 in engineering.

I have been looking into trying again as a transfer for spring 2015 or fall 2015. I will be completing my core curriculum before spring 2015, so I was looking into automatic transfer. I should qualify for automatic transfer, but the clause states that you must have completed your core curriculum at a lower-division institution. I am not sure what this means, or if A&M qualifies as one. Please help! Thanks.

Lower-division institution = community college. You lost this guarantee when you enrolled at TAMU instead. An additional requirement of the guarantee is that you need to have applied as an entering freshman to UT Austin (you didn’t say whether you did) but were denied. This legal provision was added when UT was granted the ability to set the freshman automatic admission threshold higher than the 10th percentile of high school graduating classes. It’s designed as an alternative for students who (for example) graduated in the 10th or 9th percentiles at a time when UT set the automatic threshold at the 8th percentile.
