Lower Stern GPA vs. Higher Wharton GPA

Hey guys,

So I am having trouble deciding between Wharton and Stern. I am interested in marketing and I have heard that Wharton's marketing department is much better then Stern's even though Stern is a great business school. However, the average student at Wharton gets a 3.3 GPA and the average Stern student is (guessing from what people have sadi) a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA. So which one would look better for employeers (keeping in mind Wharton is a better school)? And is Wharton marketing or wharton overall that much better then Stern? If so is it worth the GPA difference? I know Wharton gives internships but am not sure if they are as great as Stern's (even though stern is mostly finance). I also like Wharton's community better. Stern seems to lack that and have some weirdos attend there, lol but it is in New York. Which place is the better bet for me for marketing (i'm thinking entertainment based but not sure)? Also for the difficulty level, how much harder is Wharton then stern?

Also if you have any suggestions for any other schools please suggest. Thank you.

Given the choice, I'd definitely take Wharton.

Wharton has no equal. UPenn could offer you much more financial aid than NYU anyways

Alirhgt let's see if I can answer your questions.

First off, I doubt the avg GPA is 3.6 or 3.7 at stern...that would be well above cum laude for most of the class, but I could be wrong. Even so, employers will know if any GPA differences & act accordingly. You will not be punished for attending Wharton. However, if you get a 2.0 at Wharton it would send a bad message.

Wharton is better overall than Stern & better in marketing than Stern. The only area where Stern can compete w/ Wharton is in finance, for NYC's Wall Street is a finance epicenter.

I would think internships in marketing will be equal, if not favoring Wharton. Keep in mind that Philadelphia is a large city, and there are certainly reputable marketing firms there.

As far as the Wharton community, I agree, but that is up to personal preference.

By difficulty level, I am not sure if you are referring to admissions or academics. By admissions, Wharton is in a different class than Stern. Wharton's admissions are comparable to say Stanford, whereas Stern's are comparable to say Northwestern (possibly even less selective than Northwestern). By academics, I would think they are comparable -- the GPA information would be your best best, and I don't have the numbers.

Michigan also has a very solid business program. USC may suit your interests in entertainment marketing particularly well (with its LA location). Both of these programs are most likely matches for you (I don't have your stats in front of me but if I recall correctly they are quite good).

Hoper that helps. Apply to both. If this about applying ED, apply to the one you like the most. You don't want to get stuck going somewhere you don't want to go.

Thank you for your feedback it was very helpful!!
