Lowered GPA due to moving schools?

So I transferred schools in my junior year and because my current school didn't offer AP Lang or Honors Chem in their sophomore year, I have 4 semesters of 5.0 classes that weren't counted. As a result, my gpa is only a 4.21 from 9th to 11th grade. Will that affect me negatively for college admissions?

Personally I transferred in the beginning of my senior year and my gpa dropped to a 3.95 UW and I’ve still gotten results that I know I wouldn’t have gotten in my old school. What is your unweighted though? There’s so many factors involved, so I am just speaking from experience. Also, I’d get both transcripts sent. You could also have your counselor explain that if need be (that’s what mine did).

Weighted GPA means very little because it varies between HSs so much. What is your UW GPA? Colleges generally use that and class rigor for admission.

@JaeAnna @Erin’s Dad my unweighted gpa is a 3.97…

Your unweighted GPA is near perfect. Most highly selective colleges unweight GPAs because so many schools use different systems. They then look at “rigor” based on the APs, Honors, IBs compared to what your school offers and what the average student at your school takes.

@Momof2back2back alright, thank you for the info!

There are lots of high schools that don’t weight GPAs (mine doesn’t, and yet plenty of people from my hs go to really competitive colleges), so I wouldn’t worry too much. Your unweighted is fantastic :)
