Realistically, what is probably the lowest ACT score to get into an Ivy. Remember guys i am asking realistically here, so please don't say 23 or something because that is a 99.9% chance of not happening. And also, what is the mean ACT score for the Ivies. Thanks guys!

bump please

Middle 50% ACT scores for matriculants

32 35 Columbia
31 35 Yale
31 35 Harvard
31 34 Princeton
30 34 Penn
30 34 Dartmouth
29 33 Brown
29 33 Cornell

25% of attending students were admitted with scores equal or below the lower numbers. At the bottom of each school’s listed range admission probability is probably well below 10% for all schools listed, less than 4% for the schools at the top of the list (e.g., a 29 at Brown has about a 6.5% chance of admission – <a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University). You can decide what might be a “realistic” number.

thanks, but then why does everyone who wants to go to Ivy say that getting a 33 is “on the lower end” if for the most part these numbers claim that a 33 is at the 50% or higher for acceptance to these colleges?

those that have a 30 on their ACT, have incredible courses taken, high GPA, extensive curricular activities, numerous awards and so on.

The lower the academic indicators (test scores and grades/class rank/transcript), the more likely it is that a student was admitted for characteristics deemed beneficial to the student body that are not related to conventional academic potential (e.g., athletic or artistic talent, life experience, geographic/demographic/cultural perspective, notable achievements). If “everyone” you speak to doesn’t have some of these factors in their background–and it could well be that most everyone doesn’t depending on where you live–it is increasingly probable they will require test scores at the upper end of the range (and other strong academic indicators) in order to gain admission.

Because your last sentence is a little unclear, I will venture to add that while a 33 probably puts you among the upper 50% of ACT scorers in most of these school’s admitted classes, it certainly does not mean you have a >50% probability of admission at these schools. For example at Brown it appears 33’s are admitted about 10% of the time (see the earlier link provided).

Thank you so much! that was really helpful
