Lowest Cost of Attendance for International Students !!

South Dakota State Univ , has the lowest COA , I have found till date , It's around $13500 , including tuition , room & board , insurance , and other misc. expenses .
If you have found another univ or college with lower than this COA , then pls post .

If you're indian, sid, it is better to study in an Indian univ than to spend so much on South Dakota state univ! It's unwise.

I really appreciate your concern spidey , but my relatives are there , nd I m waiting for my immigration process to be completed . After all , it is really very suffocating here , in the sense that, comes only after belonging to a stereotypical psuedo hypocitical society.

Try arkansas state university...

SUNY buffalo - 12500

SUNY binghampton - 12300

SUNY stony brook - 12000

and all are academically excellent. no compromise for the price.

Thanks sevpuri , i had Binghampton in mind , bt i'll also check out the other ones.

These are for instate students. Here is the tuition and room and board for out of state and international students.

This is what I found at SUNY Buffalo's website.

Undergraduates
Tuition, in-state $4,350
Tuition, out-of-state $10,610
Room and board (average) $9,552
Fees $1,928

Bear in mind that if you are a new immigrant, you do not qualify for instate tuition unless you have worked there for at least one year. You cannot go to school during that time.

Add another to the list , SUNY Potsdam - $13680 , ( international student )

As cbreeze pointed out, you have to be careful about in-state/out-of-state tuition at public universities. For example, SUNY Potsdam charges out-of-state students (this includes anyone on a student visa) almost $20,000 for tuition, room and board.

You also have to be careful about cost of attendance vs tuition, room and board. South Dakota State charges you about $12,500 a year, but you will also need money for personal expenses, insurance, transportation etc, which quickly sum up to another $4,000 a year.

Please, please remember that if you are coming to the US from a different part of the world, that you may well be moving into a different climatic zone. The Dakotas have their own particular beauty, but prairie winters are unforgiving for the unprepared. You will need to plan a winter clothing budget for SDSU! This would not be something that you would need to think so much about if you head to Miami or Los Angeles.

Sid, are you considering applying to Brandeis U.? They have a good "Wein Scholars" program and give nearly full merit scholarships sometimes.
I think I am going to apply for it.
Any one know details about the program, Brandeis, or is applying?

Do you realize that over half of Brandeis' students are Jewish?

Yes, that's true, but they don't force you to be religious or anything

True. Brandeis caters more to the needs of Jewish students than most colleges (e.g. kosher food options, religious services etc) but religion won't dominate your everyday life - unlike at extremely religious college like Bob Jones or Brigham Young where drinking tea and extra-marital relationships are a reason for expulsion.

I have a neice who is attending Brandeis. She reports that the student body is quite segregated, barely any interaction between Jews vs non Jews. Only interaction is that orthodox Jews pay international students to turn on lights for them during the Sabbath. Depends on your comfort level.

I don't mind the Jewish presence. I don't see how it matters all that much since there are going to be people of many religions (like Orthodox Jewish people) at many colleges.
In fact, I was researching and found that Brandeis is one of the most international universities in US. I think the diversity will be great!

Hey , b@r!um . SUNY Potsdam provides an $8220 international grant , which brings the COA from $22000, to $14000

I took the numbers out of Collegeboard's international student section without double-checking SUNY Potsdam's website. My bad.

For completeness' sake, note that their COA is still higher than $14,000 though. (Estimated COA for international students including the grant is about $16,500.)

I concede .

Any more suggestions
