I'm writing to do a quick poll. I have a been worrying about my HS GPA. It was a bit low...3.4-3.5, but I took 8 APs and went to a great high school. Outside of my high school GPA, everything is in line: I have a 4.0 at JMU, good class selection, etc. I don't say that to brag, but truthfully, all other aspects of my application are as strong as possible. Also, I'm in-state.

So, if you're interested, post the lowest HS GPA you've have ever heard that successfully gained first-year transfer admissions in years past. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for the help guys and best regards,

I know someone who transferred to UVa last year from JMU.

His HS GPA was near 3.6-3.7
got like 1170 or something on his SAT I.

3.8 first semester at JMU, 3.7 second semester.

This kid was in the graduating class a year ahead of me, and I NEVER would have thought of him as a UVa kid. If you knew him, you would understand. To top it off, he did his entire UVa McIntire transfer app. DRUNK!

I don't know how he did it, but I think it had to do with my HS. We are an IB World School in Northern VA, and were nationally ranked in TIME magazine (either time or newsweek...can't remember which one)

I only had a 3.67 in hs, I was an IB candidate though at an IB school (actually the biggest one in the world) in Northern VA. My college GPA isn't all that great but I hope they recognize that it is good at William & Mary.

I knew someone last year that transfered and got in with a 3.4 HS GPA and 1150 SAT, but she had a 3.7 GPA at VaTech and awesome EC's. I'm hoping that's what helps me also, since my HS GPA was only a 3.5 and I had a low SAT score of 1200. I have a 3.65 here at UMD, but I'm not sure it's high enough to be that competitive. From what I hear, though, HS GPA's shouldn't make a huge difference coming in as a transfer student.
