Lowest SAT you've seen get in?

What is the lowest SAT you've seen get in?

790 - Math
340 - Reading
330 - Writing

Person did not study at all. Not surprisingly he is a successful engineering major.

640 math
370 reading
390 writing

but he moved to the U.S. from india before 10th grade, and his grades, essays, and ECs were excellent. He’s a freshmen at UW.

1690 and 1700 were the “worst” SAT score I’ve seen getting into UW.

i never took the SAT (or ACT for that matter) and I got in. So I guess I had the lowest score :)

^ Were you a transfer?

Wow really interesting! Most people compensate for a low score with something else though, like gpa and such though right?

ghuskies, definitely. UW, being public, really doesn’t weigh the sat very highly when making admissions decisions. Like most public institutions, GPA is, for the most part, the most important aspect. Although recently, UW has switched to a more whollistic admissions process which may change that. I remember about 5 years ago, to get into UW you had to have a certain academic index rating which was weighted 75% off your GPA and 25% off sat. Of course, uw no longer uses this, but it’s still safe to say that GPA is more important than standardized test scores for uw. I would be more interested in hearing the lowest gpa of anyone that’s gotten in, the lowest I’ve heard of is a 3.4 uw.

I know a person with a 3.3 GPA and a 2150 SAT that got rejected…

Twizzle: yep you got it, transfered from a community college w/a 3.92 gpa

I think community colleges (can) be a great option all around. I say can because I heard that alot of community colleges are awful, however mine (sccc) was pretty great. Get all the basics out of the way at 1/2 the price of the university, and doing great at UW so far

I personally got in with like a 1670… I had a 3.8 ish unweighted GPA and 4.0 weighted GPA to back it up along with a good amount of volunteer work and extracurriculars but yeah – SAT isn’t everything.

Reason I ask is a friend of mine has a ~3.9 GPA w/ 5 APs but a 1480 sat/23 ACT  pretty equally distributed across all sections too (470-520 each)

Link this thread to them.
I know if I saw it, i’d feel a little bit of reassurance. Great GPA at least!

I would be concerned for your friend because anything lower than 1600 is pretty low… even 1600 is considered low nowadays. Best hope is to do well on your written essay as that can always be a wild card to swaying admission officers.

I’ve actually seen someone last year who scored in the 1400’s with a pretty good GPA get in. But I’ve also seen someone with a good GPA and a 2200 get rejected who also applied last year.

Good gpa and a 2200? Ouch…why?

1300+ in state student

^^the person with the 2200 probably applied fairly late, which hurts one’s chances when a university practices rolling admissions. I know a kid who was waitlisted at UW but got into CMU SCS. Last year was a crazy admissions process.

the person with a 2200 may have just written half-thought out essays. I know UW does the ‘holistic’ approach, so those may have impacted admissions.

She actually applied a good month before the deadline, so I don’t think it was because she late in her application. She also got 5’s on all the AP tests she ever took. However, the written essay part may have screwed her up and her GPA was a 3.6. Who knows?
