Loyola Marymount Class of 2027 Official Thread

My DD was waitlisted. I’m gently telling her to think of it as a rejection since I’m not seeing any rejections on this thread and there seems to be lots of other waitlisted applicants. Why do some schools waitlist SO many kids?? Why not just reject so they can move on? I see in a post above that they waitlisted almost 6,800 kids last year and took 69. Why would they want to waitlist 6,800 kids for somewhere in the area of 100 spots? Maybe they don’t send rejections and just accept or waitlist everyone? Sorry…just venting.

Pretty much yes to all of that (my daughter was also waitlisted—for sure treating it as a soft rejection and moving on with other options she has in hand, hoping for more this month).

Have any accepted students heard about aid/scholarships yet? We’re anxiously waiting to see if we can afford this one. :eyes:

we heard after early action decion in december about a month later

My kid’s acceptance a week ago said that financial aid details would be coming “in a few days.” I hope today is the day for that!

S accepted last week. LMU acceptance email said the same thing – that they’d notify “in a few days” regarding scholarships. Since he hasn’t received any additional notifications, it seems like he hasn’t been offered a merit scholarship.

Has anyone that received an acceptance last week heard from LMU yet regarding scholarships?

Haven"t received any financial aid/scholarship notification. Been checking since received acceptance

We were part of EA acceptance mid Dec. we didn’t find our merit until early Feb.

Nothing has come in yet for us. I think they would send an email because we have heard from other schools via email when the awards are updated.

Son got into CS as part of EA in December. Scholarship offer came 2 weeks later on Jan. School is awesome but $ award was fairly small, so still very expensive. They gave out merit award and couple $K award for EA admission. We’re evaluating our options as time goes on. Good luck all!

(I’m not sure where to post this, so I’m trying both here and the Occidental thread.) My daughter was admitted to both LMU and Oxy, and we’re going to do a whirlwind tour of schools in a couple of weeks for spring break. We’ll be visiting LMU and Oxy April 13–14, but they both have an Admitted Student Day on April 14. Any advice about which school’s admitted student event to attend?

Whichever one we miss, we’ll still visit on April 13 and do a tour and whatever else we can arrange. And yes, of course we can decide based on which school she’s leaning toward, but I’m wondering if anyone has intel about whether one school’s event is especially useful or fun to attend.

Haven’t been to either’s admitted student day. You can ask for the agenda.

But having gone to a few of these, they are marketing days.

The most important thing as that you get there, walk around, talk to kids on campus and if interested, make appointments with profs or other depts you want to speak with - whether it’s a full day thing or a 3 hour standard tour and add on.

So go by the most robust agenda or by the school you’re leaning toward.

Have any recently accepted students received their financial aid package from LMU?

We finally got the financial aid letter today. My kid got a grant and a scholarship, but unfortunately, it’s not enough to make it affordable for us.

Same for us. :frowning:

We just got it too. Wasn’t as big as Pepperdine for us.

Son was admitted but to Nexis Non-Degree. He may be happy but that means no Merit Scholarships / Financial Aid. Any others accepted via Nexis? Just way too expensive for me to comprehend, and he’s been accepted elsewhere. I’m skeptical he’d receive Merit once out of Nexis.

My son also recently received financial aid letter from LMU. They offered a modest amount of scholarship and grants, much less than I expected given our family’s efc according to FAFSA. Unfortunately it makes LMU significantly more expensive than the UC. I believe in the Jesuit education, but it is not financially feasible for our family. Thankfully he got into his top choice UC.

Does anyone know if financial aid appeals are possible at LMU, has anyone tried to appeal?

No idea - but did you see this page?- it also tells you what they will and won’t consider.

Not sure if you saw it - so wanted to provide. Good luck.
