Loyola Marymount VS. UMass Amherst

Hi everyone,

I would be an out-of-state student for both. I’ve run through pros and cons but I am terrified of making the wrong decision and having regrets. Some things to consider:

  • I am from Connecticut so that is a 6 hour flight, and I am not exactly made of money
  • I want to go pre-med and I also would like good internship or volunteering opportunities

My pros for UMass include that it is 1.5 hour drive away and it is potentially more diverse, I’m not sure? (I’m a black female so I’d like a reasonable/decent amount of diversity)
Cons include potentially large classes, no good lab space, bitter winters, and questionable location besides it being a “perfect college town” (like will there be nearby internships?)

Pros for LMU are good weather & I hate the cold so less chance of seasonal depression, the campus is close to downtown but still has college campus feel, so there’s always stuff to do and plenty of internship opportunities. I also appreciate the small class sizes . Cons are the 6 hour flight, I’m scared about LA traffic, and how LA itself is expensive. Also, diversity on campus, I’d like to know more about.

Please let me know what you think and anything you may already know about either of them.
