I was deferred from the LSA Honors program. Does anyone know if it is still possible to get in, or if it's basically like a rejection? Thank you!

You probably need to wait till the May 1 decision date. There may be some admitted students declined the acceptance and go somewhere else as 3 out of 5 students would do that (probably less for those in honors program though).

@billcsho‌ The email said they would get back to me by April 25th. Do you think I should put in my deposit (I am definitely attending) now, or wait for their final decision first?

If you are definitely attending anyway, it does not matter if you pay now or wait till 4/25 as it is not going to make difference. The LSA Honors decision may affect your housing application though. For that, you may want to wait for the outcome although the housing application has started yesterday. Just as a backup plan, you may want to look up the other residential programs in case you want to apply. There are essays requirements that you may want to take a look at them now and get ready for the application in case you did not get into the Honors program.

Would it be too late to apply for Honors housing if I do get in by the 25th?

Housing application opened yesterday and close on May 7.

Ah ok thanks for letting me know! So what do you suggest I do, wait or put deposit now? By the way, I was invited to apply to Honors if that makes a difference to my chances.

Now I am confused. Are you accepted to LSA already but pending for the Honors program acceptance?
Anyway, I think the housing application is only open to those that have already pay the deposit. So if you have already decided to attend anyway, you may go ahead and pay the deposit now and check out the housing application form.

Sorry about the confusion, I have been accepted to LSA and deferred from its Honors program. I guess my question is if I put in my deposit now, will I have to apply for housing right away or can I wait for the Honors program’s decision and Honors housing.

As you cannot apply to Honors housing and another residential program at the same time, I think you may want to wait for the Honors result before housing if you really want to apply to Honors housing. However, I think you may also be in the Honors program but not living in the honors housing and join other residential program. In the latter case, you don’t need to wait. The information on the Housing website is a bit confusing, but that is my understanding.

My son has been admitted to Honors. He is very interested in Michigan but we are visiting his “final schools” next week. Still I think Michigan will be his choice and I have been concerned that delaying his acceptance would reduce his chances of getting honors housing. I wrote the Honors Program and they said that it will not. All freshman in and out of honors get a priority number if they submit their housing application by May 7. All of those students have an equal change of getting the housing they seek. Beginning May 8 it is first come first served. Here is the reply from the Honors Program:

Thank you for contacting us with this question! Honors and non-Honors housing use the same application and the same application process, so just as for non-Honors housing, all Honors students who apply for Honors housing by May 7th will have equal chances. Please let me know if you have any more questions or if I haven’t been entirely clear.

I know honors housing is not guaranteed, but does anyone know if it is common to be denied honors housing? It would be very disappointing because my son his hoping the honors program/housing will provide him with a somewhat smaller community.

^It’s not officially guaranteed to cover housing’s ass in case of a mistake but I’ve never heard of an honors student not getting it if they want it.

Thanks maizeandblue21. That is reassuring!
