What do you guys think? Would it be better to do LSM/M&T with upenn’s dual degree program, or is it better to say major in bio and minor in econ at harvard? Also, which one is harder to get into?
@collegeasker12 LSM and M&T are most prob harder to get into Harvard, but there is much more self-selection going on there than at Harvard. At LSM the average SAT of admitted students is about 2310( so the median is prob around 2330-2340) . The average SAT for harvard overall is 2228( median abt 2250) and the Penn overall average is 2200 (median 2230). Also LSM admits only 25 students each year so it is a super small program and its students enjoy very intensive individual attention and guidance. The undergraduate quality at Harvard is nothing spectacular (compared to what you would expect based on the harvard name–which is mainly due to Harvard s unparalleled grad schools)… Classes taught mainly by TAs not that great access to professors etc. At Penn this is not the case at all, and especially LSM and M&T have prestige comparable to Harvard and will also prepare you better for your future career. M&T and LSM students are most probably the smartest/ most accomplished people at Penn and these programs are very small and well organized and offer incredible resources to their students in terms of helping them find internships and utilize the alumni network ( since the programs are so small their alumni networks are incredibly tight-knit, and regularly host alumni events etc). Personally, the only school I would even consider choosing over Penn M&T or LSM is Stanford and even then it would not be an easy choice.
