LSU Admissions C/O 2024

Hi all - question…

Does LSU advisors, etc select/schedule the Fall 2020 classes for incoming freshman?

I know most colleges do this but wasn’t sure how LSU handled it.

Any insight would be great!

@jakepaluba12 Yeah, they send you an email about that stuff but it’s gonna take a while. You go to the My LSU sign-in page and select “Forgot Password.” You’re gonna have to enter your LSU ID and from there, it show you how to make a password for your MyLSU

@Lacole03 From what I read, all freshman are required to go to an orientation in order to meet with their advisors and make their schedules. Due to COVID-19, I don’t know if we’re going to have face-to-face orientations. Hopefully, this situation will blow over by the time orientations are starting.

@Khng20
Ah, good to know. I hadn’t read that.

We are in CT so any onsite orientation would def take some pre-planning. It will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Thanks!

I’m still waiting a decision… are you?

Off topic, does anyone know which dorm is preferred between Cypress & Annie Boys? My D is already in the health science residential college (Cypress) but is sort of considering Annie Boyd due to location.

Any thoughts from anyone familiar?

@Lacole03 I did a lot of research on what dorm I wanted to stay in. Both Cypress and Annie Boyd are one of best residential halls to live in. Annie Boyd has its pros and cons and Cypress has its pros and cons.

Note

  • Both Cypress and Annie Boyd are about a 5 minute walk away from the Quad
  • Both halls have similar room sizes
  • Annie Boyd is on the east side of campus while Cypress is on the west side
  • Cypress is a bit more expensive than Annie Boyd, but both are priced above $4000
  • If staying at Cypress, then the closest dining hall would be The 5, but if staying at Annie Boyd, the closest dining hall would be The 459 Commons

Cypress Pros:
-Being able to take classes in the hall
-More amenities
-Closer to the PMAC and Tiger Stadium
-(Opinion) For me, the nicest looking dorm on campus
-Staying with other freshmen in her general field

Annie Boyd Pros
-Closer to The Student Union
-Closer to the UREC
-Closer to the Greek houses (if your D is the party type and/or considering to rush)
-Closer to the Parade Grounds
-Being in a hall with different majors

Honestly, I was contemplating on either Spruce, Cedar, or Annie Boyd as those halls were the nicest looking dorms and was available to me. Ultimately, I chose Spruce as being able to take classes in my hall saves me the trouble from walking from my hall to my classes. Meeting with other engineers was another reason too.

Both Cypress and Annie Boyd are great, so it’s going to hard to choose between the two. If your daughter feels location is better then Annie Boyd is the right place for her, but if she wants to be in a hall where she can meet with others in her general field and take classes in her hall then Cypress is a right for her.

@Khng20
This is a great wrap up! Thanks!

The Rec center seems pretty far away from Cypress and my D was looking forward to working out there. -

I feel like Cypress is totally away from anything and Annie Boyd seems more central as you mentioned.

This will be a tough call overall.

@Khng20 My daughter and her room mate are also looking at Annie Boyd- lots of kids are and I’ve heard it’s a really hard dorm to get into to. At first they wanted Cedar but it’s so far from everything, including sorority row and they plan on rushing. They are prepared to have to settle for another dorm if Annie is full- When did you pay your housing deposit ?

@jm1983 I submitted my housing deposit fee on 2/23/20. During the first week of March, I got an email stating I was accepted into the Engineering Residential Dorm. For traditional halls, I think you’ll find out what dorm you’re going to be assigned during late April or Early May. You’ll also be able to choose your rooms during those times.

While I’ve not visited a lot of LSU dorms I will say Cyrpess is among the best overall dormitories I have ever visited. Agree it’s quite far to the rec center and fraternity row.

The rec center is simply over the top amazing btw.

Correct- If you are in a traditional hall you chose in May. Really hoping for Annie Boyd but I think with all this going on my daughter will just be happy to be on campus, doesn’t matter where.

My D was confirmed in Cypress a few weeks ago but was recently debating if she should switch and not be so far away and possibly pick a dorm more central. - she has decided to stay in Cypress. She was also worried about not getting one she was thinking about and getting stuck with one not so great.

She isn’t interested in rushing. And my husband said she can run to the rec center for cardio and use the weights there…lol.

She has a roommate/suite mates
all set there as well. She will be fine and can always switch it up the following year.
I think the support of those with similar academic interests will be good for her too.

LSU’s shuttle service is super convenient for getting across campus. There’s routes specifically for getting students who live in Spruce/Cypress to the Rec/Annie Boyd area and vise versa.

I chose to go with Cypress because of the educational benefits and also the fact that I was forewarned that Annie is super popular making it really hard to get into. A lot of people complained that last year Annie filled up so quick that the only place left was the Pentagon (which I heard is not the best).

While the location of Annie Boyd can’t be beat, I didn’t want to risk being placed in a least favorable dorm.

Have you heard anything? I got the same response as you.

@dap616 You should try calling up LSU and ask about the status of your admission. A user from a latter post said that LSU is sending out their final wave of decisions.

@dap616 i emailed office of admissions and they said they were still reviewing and sending out applications they usually post Thursday evenings so hopefully we can an acceptance tomorrow

I really hope that they come out today.

Called earlier and they said by the 15th everyone should hear back.

@Mkaylaj and everyone else that got accepted… I am SO happy for you guys!!! Really, just makes me smile to read your comments. My daughter has decided to accept admission elsewhere, but the momma bear in me feels obligated to say, I live less than a half hour away from campus. If there is ever anything I can do for ya’ll (or your kids!), please don’t hesitate to reach out. Also parents, if you are unfamiliar, there is a very active and helpful parents facebook page called LSU Parents. Again, HUGE congrats ya’ll. #GeauxTigers
