LSU Admissions C/O 2024

I received an email back from LSU financial aid office today. I was informed that complete financial aid packages would come out in early February via mail and on myLSU.

@acate2020 thank you for letting us know!

We got a big purple envelope with a very cool popup inside today! No aid package but hopefully we will get that soon!

@needhalc
When did you get the acceptance on the portal?
What state are you in?

We received portal acceptance on 12/18.
We are in CT.
Nothing in the mail yet.

Congrats! I asked admissions; they said that financial aid statements will be sent in the spring. Our daughter did receive a letter with a merit scholarship right before Christmas, but it looks like we won’t have the whole financial picture for a while. Sigh…
We are in Virginia.

@Lacole03
Purple package in the mail today. Very exciting. Still waiting to hear about financial aid. DD was accepted on December 18 (via the portal). She received an email message telling her to check her portal for an update. That’s how you’re notified.

We live in Texas. Hoping for a little love from LSU to help make the OOS costs a bit more bearable.

@ssajwa1
Yes, my D received the portal update notification email and acceptance on 12/18.

I was just wondering about when the physical mail was received as we are OOS as well and haven’t received anything. Hopefully soon.

And agree…hoping for a little financial love as well. Lol

@ssajwa1 we received acceptance on the portal too on 12/18…No purple package yet, but it was too cold to go to the mailbox yesterday :slight_smile:

Did your merit scholarships come with your initial envelope? There was nothing in ours but the letter that was on line.

My D just got her purple envelope today.

I was told by financial aid that merits are sent separately. Sometime in Feb.

My S got his purple envelope today too!!

Nov 21st Accepted in portal
Early Dec PopUp Acceptance in Mail (Bulk mailing with no date on it)
Dec 18 Merit Scholarship info sent
In State
No word on Honors or Honors Scholarships Yet

@Lacole03 he was accepted December 17th, and we are in NC. AND today we received a second sparkly purple envelope with the Tiger Excellence Scholar Nonresident Award of $15334/yr! Double what Alabama offered. This puts the price into In-state range. We are all very excited!

@Lacole03 Congratulations…I hope they give us some $$ as we are OOS! I guess only time will tell…

Did LSU offer in-state tuition to Texas residents at one time? I was thinking this was the case. I guess no longer…?

Our daughter applied 11/1; was accepted about 11/7; received the pop-up in late November; got the merit scholarship card just before Christmas.

@doodlewrangler …LOL Love your name! That gives me hope for some $$…

Still no word on merit aid from LSU, and Dean Earle has yet to reply to my email that was sent over nine days ago, so I’m not a happy camper.

The good news is that I was invited to Candidate Weekend @ NYUAD (Abu Dhabi), and that scholarship is a full ride, so it’s looking less likely that I will attend LSU. I should know for sure by 2/15.

Can’t say I’m feeling bad about letting LSU go at this point. They leave too many people waiting/hanging for too long. That’s not good customer service, especially for those who paid the $50 application fee. Pardon me if I’m not impressed with LSU’s administration of admissions and scholarships. They have a lot of room for improvement.

However, once you get past the admissions quagmire, LSU is a great school. My sisters love/loved it there. Congratulations to everyone who was admitted and is happy about their decision.

@GhostOfBanquo…it’s not unusual to not have all the info yet…We are still waiting to find out if we got in to a few other schools let alone find out about $$$…It is only January 18th…It’s a big school…You just need to be patient…Many schools won’t even tell you if you have been accepted for another month or so if not longer…

@basilwat - LSU uses a rolling-admissions model. Since that’s the model LSU has chosen to use, then LSU needs to use it fairly and efficiently. Unfortunately, LSU is not doing that. For example, although I was offered admission over two months ago (about a week after I applied) and have been sent multiple emails requesting I commit to LSU, LSU has neither offered me a merit award nor an invitation to apply for the Stamps and President’ Alumni scholarships. Students who applied to LSU after I applied and who have academic credentials not as good as mine have been offered those things. Is that being consistent and/or fair? I don’t think so. Besides, why should I commit to LSU before they assign a merit award? By committing to LSU, I would be taking away the school’s incentive to offer me any kind of merit award.

Also, I have no problem being patient; however, merit awards have limited funding each yearly cycle, and when the allocated funding runs out, those award programs close.

Understand this: LSU uses the rolling-admissions system so that the school can cast a wider net to allow for students to apply over a longer time frame and to get students who apply early to commit sooner. It’s not a bad admissions scheme, but LSU is dropping the ball by not following through and serving and rewarding those who apply early. Sorry, I’m not willing to make excuses for LSU’s problems with admissions. Schools that are much larger are doing a much better job. LSU needs to catch up.
