LSU Admissions C/O 2024

@GhostOfBanquo I totally understand the process…We aren’t committing because we don’t know if we are getting $$ and we haven’t heard from all of our schools yet and we receive please commit emails all the time…That is just a robotic email that goes out to everyone…Each school does things in their own way…I’m watching people on the U of Miami site lose their minds…out of pocket expenses are constantly changing on their portal etc…I think the whole college acceptance process is what it is…I would like to think it is fair across the board but I’m fairly certain it isn’t at any school…There is no rhyme or reason for some who are accepted and some who are not let alone the merit $$…They may have X amount of students from OOS and from each state they want to let in and probably have a big white board somewhere saying ok we have 2000 from here and 2000 from here…How many do we want from each area? Blah Blah Bah They know how many they will typically get to commit after accepting a much larger portion…They also take in to account they may be a safety school for many if the student hasn’t applied for ED and has incredibly high grades/scores. I think it’s relatively safe to assume that most kids with through the roof stats are not choosing LSU as their top school unless family has gone before or it is just somewhere they always have wanted to go or because of those grades they will get a full ride. Is LSU your top school or only your top school if you get X amount of $$. For some, it’s their top school regardless of the money they are given. Lots of games are played when it comes to applying to and getting accepted to schools by ALL schools.

Am I just an old fart or does anyone else think that finding out about a college acceptances online (vs snail mail) is impersonal?

When my older D applied to colleges a few years ago most notifications were by snail mail. This year most schools notify via an online portal. The LSU pop up snail mail is amazing - but we got it a month after the portal acceptance. They should ditch the portal and just send the pop up.

Received the mail acceptance today was accepted on 12/18 via portal. Didn’t receive any merit information or financial information in the package though. Fingers crossed we get some type of $$!

Mom2020 or other in-state peeps… Was the TOPS award listed on merit letters? The only thing listed on my kid’s award letter was the Flagship Scholarship and President’s student job.

@somemom Yes, TOPs was listed on the merit letter. You or your child can log in to the LOFSA site to make sure everything is correct there. Then if there isn’t anything your HS needs to fix or you don’t need to send in your ACT scores, then maybe call LSU financial aid and ask. Our ACTs were not automatically listed earlier in the school year and I went to the ACT site and paid to have them sent.

Hi all -
How do we know if LSU has received our FAFSA info? We sent it in sometime ago but I don’t see any specific acknowledgment on the acceptance portal…should I? Or does it only state that it is a needed item if they didn’t receive it?

If its like other schools we’ve applied to, they download the FAFSA when they need it. As long as you listed LSU as a school to receive it, they will have access to it.

I applied late December OOS not sure when im gonna hear back but wondering if you get an email when the portal is updated and maybe when that would be. Thanks

@Rosen1001…yes you will receive an email that you have an update on your portal!

Thank you SO much. This was VERY helpful!

I accepted my offer today for LSU. Geaux Tigers!

I know that LSU has a first-time student on-campus housing. However; I want to live off-campus with my grandparents. First-time students are defined as high school graduates who have not attempted any college coursework. I am wondering if I take a class this summer at my local community college, will I be exempt from this policy? Does anyone have any insight on this?

You can fill-out the waiver.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing… would like to live with family instead of on campus if possible

My son applied and accepted in a week in December…Under Financial Aid and Scholarships it shows nothing on my phone on his main portal page. Does that mean he received nothing or do we think we will find out more over time. We received the pop up in the mail but the said nothing about aid or merit money. Essentially the same as the portal…We did not fill out the FAFSA since we wouldn’t get it but I was hoping for some merit money. We are OOS. Any thoughts??

My daughter’s portal changed recently but doesn’t show the financial aid offer. If you received a merit letter or aid offer after receiving the pop-up acceptance was it by snail mail? We just attended Destination LSU but were unable to meet with the Financial Aid office. Looking for more information about attendance fees as we want to make an informed decision.

Our son’s Admissions portal was updated yesterday too adding a new section for Financial Aid Checklist. They are now asking for 2 verification documents for financial aid. He still can’t get into the LSU Portal, only the Admissions portal. We were at Destination LSU yesterday too and although we did not sit down with financial aid, I went by and asked when we would find out about financial aid. She said they would be preparing the packages to be sent out via snail mail in Feb. The way she said it made me think they would be sent out at the end of Feb and possibly received in March. My son LOVED Destination LSU and is ready to be a TIGER!!! They told us there were 16,000 applicants so far this year. Last year was the biggest Freshman class at around 6.000.

If you log into the admissions portal click view update, then at the bottom of that letter/screen click “return to application status” it takes you to an updated screen (even though the link doesn’t say that). It shows Financial Aid & Scholarships at the bottom of the screen, and shows my sons Tiger Excellence award. No federal aid yet.

Hi, I see that now, but it’s all blank as of today. I hope that doesn’t mean anything. Thanks for the info!

In the same boat, nothing yet

Nothing for us either…
