LSU class of 2025

Thank you! My daughter has similar GPA w/great EC. She also is 4 year letterman (golf), half of the AP classes and about same honors. Hopefully she can get a good enough merit award. Good luck to you!

Is it known how many finalist are invited to scholars weekend.

@fnpony. Just curious if you double checked your email. Based on your credentials it doesn’t make any sense for you not to be selected.

I could not find such an email so I guess LSU might have known that I want to go to a college out of state. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Therefore, they gave opportunity to others.

My son was admitted in late November to the honors college for the class of 2025 with: 36 ACT, all A’s in high school, 10 AP classes(all the hs offered), 4 yrs varsity soccer, 4 yrs band(one year all-state band so far), leadership roles in band and soccer. He also has substantial community service during summers and weekends through church youth group. We are LA residents, and his mother and I are LSU undergrad and med school alumni.

He wasn’t selected to submit essay/resume for Stamps/Presidential scholarships. He also hasn’t received any merit scholarship offer yet from LSU. 3 years ago, my daughter, with almost identical stats(except 34 ACT and no all-state band), also wasn’t selected to apply for LSU’s competitive scholarships. She ended up admitted to Tulane EA, with a full tuition scholarship. She chose Tulane, because it was basically the same price as LSU and she felt more “wanted” there.

My kids are well-rounded, but they lacked whatever characteristics are required to compete for one of these scholarships.

LSU ranks 153 from US News, so they know where they are, and they know most top kids (like ACT 36) will not come if there are offers from other schools who rank better. Therefore, they will not waste time to offer the top scholarships.

In our community, I know a guy (Class 2024) applied for only Ivy, and did not get one. He later (way passed the scholarship deadline) negotiated with LSU and was awarded with full-ride (even with extra $ each month). And yes, his ACT is 36.

Now, the professors are LOVING him as LSU normally does not have such quality students.

@fnpony. Now that you mentioned it, I have seen situations where high achieving kids get passed over with the assumption they’re going to get into a top school.
You would think schools would still go for the top students. It may be blasphemy to mention Alabama on a LSU thread however that’s what they do. Throw money at those kids.
My son actually prefers la tech over LSU. Feels like a better fit to him. As a parent boring Ruston sounds better than BR.

Agree, money talks.

Forgot to mention that that dude’s father is a professor of LSU. Maybe he has special tunnel.

OOS (upper Midwest) D was admitted to Ogden way back in Oct, but not a word on merit. Meanwhile other OOS schools (including Bama) have already offered her significant merit. Still waiting to hear from a couple of her reach schools, but unless she gets in to a reach, she’s leaning toward UofSC, who offered her OOS tuition waiver. It’s not even so much about the $ (in fact, she may choose one of the reach schools w/o merit $ if she gets in). She’s just not feeling “wanted” by LSU like she is by UofSC.

Sorry for her feeling. Please do not let one school drag down the emotion.

Also LSU portal does not show anything related to money. Feel like waiting in the darkroom.

Thanks, @fnpony. She’s actually pretty enthusiastic about UofSC (and possibly Bama), so she’s good even if she doesn’t get in to any of the reach schools. It’s more puzzlement that LSU would admit her to Ogden but not offer any merit, and she’s pretty much shrugged her shoulders and moved on.

I am sure if you filed FAFSA, LSU will provide some kinds of assistant since she has been already admitted. As I know, such funding will be distributed out in the next coupe of months.

I’m wondering if LSU will start handing out merit scholarships after the stamps and presidential winners are announced. That’s only my assumption. I’m not sure but I believe Alabama still has some decisions to make regarding merit. But their system seems to be set up differently based on AC T score. My son already did get information regarding Fasfa from Alabama

The package I just received is for the merit scholarship, and the letter mentioned “this is initial”. Also the letter did mention need-base scholar will be determined soon.

My son received a packet in the mail today with information on an out of state merit scholarship he received. He didn’t get an email on it and nothing was listed in portal.

My daughter’s said initial offer as well- does LSU increase these offers? It could really make a difference with us.
