For the past two years, my daughter has considered Northwestern her first choice, and for a prospective voice major who wants the best academic environment possible it seemed a perfect fit. But the more I read the Daily Northwestern, College *******, Princeton Review, studentsreview.com and CC, a common norm seems to emerge. NU students typically seem to give modest praise to their Alma Mater, which they then qualify by some misgivings; e.g., "For all we complain, it's really pretty OK," and "Granted, it's far from perfect, but looking back, I probably would come here again - I think." I look at NU on paper and I see an Ivy-caliber major university of moderate size on a scenic lakefront in one of the most exciting metro areas in the country, with great students and world-class performing arts. Am I missing something? Is there some inherent fly in NU's ointment?

I don't know gadad. I do know that I don't give my alma mater stellar ratings (I graduated from UVa). Maybe disgruntled people are more likely to post ar review?

My son went to debate camp at NU this summer and absolutely loved it. We also lived in Rockford before we moved to Texas.
