My daughter is probably going to apply to Haverford ED2. She’s visited the campus twice and loved it.
One question I as a parent had is the timing of completing Lutnick Library. I checked out the website, and there are good status updates of how everything’s progressing, but I couldn’t find an expected grand opening date. I’m hoping it will open for the 2019-2020 school year. Anyone know?
After my daughter got in, we contacted the school to confirm about the library. In case anyone else was wondering, they’re on track for it to be open for Fall semester. I feel bad for those students who had to go without a library for so long!
Haha, sounds like we’re similar. I checked out the calendar, and it says that First-Year & New Students’ Arrival is Wednesday, 8/28. [I don’t think I can post links here (not sure why) so go to Haverford’s website followed by residential-life/calendar.]
I actually booked an Airbnb less than a mile away from campus for the week leading up to that. My in-laws will fly in from Japan, so we’re going to spend the week exploring Philadelphia, checking out the campus, buying miscellaneous stuff she’ll need, etc. One advantage of getting in ED is that all the Airbnbs and hotels are still open right now. Once the RD people show up, there will be nothing left!
We are originally from Philly, so we will be lucky enough to stay with family- our cousin actually owns a few Airbnbs in/around the city, so if no one wants to loan us a guest room we have that as a backup. Ha. I did see those dates, but in every past year there has been an open campus day (I believe that is what they call their admitted student’s day) in April. My daughter is looking forward to it, but there appears to be nothing scheduled for this year.
Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, I assume there’s going to be an admitted students day in April or thereabouts. I think my D won’t be going to that one since she’s already visited the campus twice–once just on a regular campus tour + info session and once with Have-A-Look. If Haverford is willing to fly her out to admitted students day (or if she were RD and trying to decide among a few different options), that’d be one thing, but otherwise, I think it’s hard to justify a $400+ plane ticket just so she can visit the college she’ll be attending 4 months later.
@dla26 I completely understand! For us, it’s a quick three hour car ride, so even though my D has visited multiple times she would like to go again. She wants a jump start on meeting her new classmates and talking to some clubs. Anyway, thanks!
The Lutnick Library is now open, and will be dedicated on Saturday, October 23, 2019.
