Lying and writing my ECs on her college app? Will she be found out?

I attended a presentation by an admissions director from a respected liberal arts college several years ago. Although it does not apply specifically to this situation, it is worth noting. She said that they cannot possibly scrutinize all social media for all applicants, but that they will inevitably receive one or two (usually anonymous) tips regarding applicants. When they do, they will check out the Facebook page (or Instagram, or Twitter, or whatever), and disturbing details about an applicant will surface that way. I still think that you should follow the old adage about believing half of what you see, and none of what you hear. This is probably much ado about nothing. If the other student actually lies on her Common Application, she will lie awake every night for the foreseeable future worrying about getting caught. That should be punishment enough. The benefits do not outweigh the risks for her. I don’t see that the potential benefits for you reporting a rumor as fact outweigh the risks, either.

^^There are many people in this world who lie as easily as they breathe. They do it without a second thought. By the time you hit middle age, you realize honest people are far rarer than liars. It’s sad, but true.
