M.Arch Application Choices

So, after a year off gaining real-world architecture experience it is time for me to continue my education. I applied to 2 school this year: Ball State University and Texas A&M. I am not concerned with going to the most prestigious schools and am really interested in both programs. I would have applied to more schools but I got caught up in the working world, paying bills and enjoying my evenings, and the deadlines snuck up on me very quickly.

I am curious if anyone has attended either of these schools or if they know any graduates? A few of my professors attended A&M and I have heard very good things about the alumni association and the connections that you can gain through your degree there. But I haven't heard too much about BSU in that regard. I am highly interested in parametric design and know that BSU is on the forefront of that specialty which is why I applied there but I am not sure which degree would serve me better going forward with my career.

So I see a benefit in each program. Assuming I get accepted into both programs which would you choose and why? Any insight or opinion is greatly appreciated at this point.

I don’t know much about Ball State, but being in Texas I am pretty familiar with the program at A&M. Their MArch program in healthcare design is considered one of the best in the country, and their graduates are highly sought after by the national firms. However the rest of the program is not nearly as highly thought of, and I would have to rank the program behind the graduate programs at Rice, UT Austin, and UT Arlington.

On the plus side, A&M has a ton of architectural alumni in the state and they are very gung-ho. So yes the alumni network can be a benefit. I just don’t know if it can overcome a mediocre portfolio.
