Neverheard of it, either way I wouldn’t want to go to any school with the word “sex” in it, period.

You don’t like sex? That’s interesting.

sex it the best part of it. (the name…lol)

we go to middlesex, therefore we are middlesexy.

Too bad you’re not like supersex school or else you can say you’re supersexy lol. Middlesexy makes it sound like you’re only a little bit sexy.

What did you do to get into the school? I mean I’m not going to apply, obviously 1. I’m a senior and 2. I live in the west coast. But I was wondering what made you stand out from the rest of the applicants?

@rok, perhaps izzy got into a good school because she`s more mature than, lets say, others who make lame sex comments.

There is no such thing as mature, people just like to hide their true self. Plus, you got to admit, that name is ridiculous… They couldn’t think of anything better?

ok, do you know anything about English history/Geography? or do you miss out on that info on the west coast???

Middlesex School was named as such because it is in Middlesex County, MA, which was named by immigrants (in the 1600’s) from Middlesex County, England. Middlesex is an English name and you, sir, have the maturity of an eleven year-old boy. Really, a senior in high school that has nothing better to add than a lame comment about the fact that the “sex” in Middlesex is funny? Is sex funny? Lord.

And I got in because I am a smart, talented student whom they (the admissions office) thought would help continue the school’s excellent reputation.

Izzy, I`m applying to Msex this fall. Hope the other girls @ Msex are as cool as you. You prob wont want to know a lowly underclassman such as moi. But if I get in, look for the maddog sticker on my bag and say hi.

Sure thing! Hope you get in- I always love when CCers come (and don’t worry, my goal is that by the time i graduate all underclassmen will call me “mom” weird i know…)

:)

Is it true that people in the Middle have sex?

it’s wildly debated, but most experts agree that people in the Middle do indeed have sex

Hey Izzy,
I plan to apply to Middlesex for sophomore year, and I know the acceptance rate is especially brutal. Do you know how many new sophomores there are every year?

It varies, and my class is exceptionally large [so we have fewer incoming sophomores], but there are usually about fifteen? Maybe more like twenty. I’m not sure, as my class is only getting nine or eleven, something like that. I think they were able to get a smaller incoming freshman class though, so you should have a better shot at getting in. Also, a few people don’t come back for sophomore year [there are at least three that I know of in my class, perhaps more], so that’s a few more spots as well [though I hope the class of 2014 wants to stay!]. Best of luck!

“there are at least three that I know of in my class, perhaps more”

do you know why they’re leaving? i’m just curious.

Various reasons- one wanted to be closer to her family, one wasn’t having the best time, and her sister [who graduated] is a lot to live up to, and as far as i know, the other just didn’t like it. Middlesex just isn’t the right fit for some people, though they think it will be. One of my friends [class of 2012] opted to go to public school in her home state of colorado after two years trying to make middlesex work. It just doesn’t always work out, and though it’s regrettable, I think all parties involved would rather the student be happy than be in an environment that they just don’t like as much as others.

I don’t even see the point in these types of High Schools. Honestly, if you want to major in some type of English, then you should probably come here. Yet, if you want to major in Engineering or something go to some other school that doesn’t make you pay 50,000k a year. For what? A .5 increase chance of getting into an IVY which you’d have to pay about the same. Prep schools are only for rich kids… People who go to a regular public school have just as much of a chance to an IVY school than kids who go here. The majority of students who attend prep schools are miserable! So what’s the point? To waste half a hundred grand a say you want to Middlesex?

****. You obviously have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

1) It’s not just “if you want to major in english”. Granted, Middlesex’s English program is its strongest, but overall the academics greatly surpass those at public schools- better teachers [the vast majority of whom hold advanced degrees from good schools and are very dedicated to their work and their students], better curriculum.
2) All Middlesex graduates go to good schools. Now, only about fourteen out of the ninety-three members of the class of 2010 went to ivies [though that is still a larger percentage than most public schools can claim], but many others went to good schools such as MIT, Stanford, Amherst, UChicago, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Bucknell, Trinity, etc. These successes can be attributed to the superior academics provided by Midddlesex, in addition to the required sports and thriving arts program which contribute to a well-rounded student. Furthermore, Middlesex students are more prepared, at least from the outset, for the workload and rigor of university.
3) Prep schools are only for rich kids? Seriously? You’re going to use that as part of your argument. You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about- most of these schools ofer LOTS of financial aid to students that can’t afford tuition- Middlesex is at about 25-30% students on FA, but schools like Andover are closer to 50%. They want the be
best students, not the richest. And 50% of people went to public school before they came to mx [me included. oh, and btw, i’m on FA+my dad’s a Shell expat so i have an education allowance to be educated in my home country- no way in hell could my parents afford middlesex].
4) Miserable? I LOVE Middlesex! I LIVE with my friends, campus is gorgeous, there’s a lot of work but it’s manageable, and it’s FUN.

Please take your uninformed, jealous, boneheaded comments elsewhere.

rok, whats the point of saying neg. comments. It leaves a lot to our imagination as to why you are an angry person. My parents work really hard to give me the opportunity to attend boarding school. It
s not just a place where rich kids go. In fact, Msex has more diversity than my public HS. I should know, I
m a minority.
I thought you west coast dudes were more zen.
