M&T at UPenn

I’ve had a passion for business and engineering for as long as I could possibly remember. The two of them have always seemed to click for me and have been able to go hand in hand quite easily. The M&T program at UPenn seems to fulfill this desire that I have to do both business and engineering together. But how selective is the program (percentage wise) and is it worth applying ED to UPenn for? Also, if I don’t get into M&T but get into Wharton, is it still binding? UPenn is my #2 choice on the offset that I get accepted into MIT somehow. What’s the best option to go with for applying ED/RD with the following profile?

I have my extracurriculars going for me, and my ACT score isn’t bad, but obviously my GPA is weighing me down. My essays are usually very well written. Should I wait until I increase my GPA to apply to UPenn? Thanks for any help!

You need a stellar 1st semester senior year and a subtantially higher ACT to have reasonable chances to Penn. For this reason I wouldn’t recommend ED. Apply RD. My sense is that you have a similar challenge in your MIT application. You want your first semester grades to be considered and if you apply EA they won’t be and there is a chance that MIT may reject rather than defer your EA application.

If you do decide to apply ED to M&T my understanding is that you can choose to be considered ED for Wharton if rejected for M&T. Should that happen my understanding is that your ED acceptance to Wharton would be binding.

From what I’ve heard about UPenn, Wharton is the hardest to get into. UPenn itself is very selective but I agree with fogcity that an upward trend in grades during your first semester can make a difference in your chances.

Thank you! I will push both MIT and UPenn to RD instead of ED!

@a20171 M&T (Management and Technology) is the most selective program, more selective than Wharton. It combines Penn School of Engineering with Wharton for a dual degree program at Penn. The class is about 50 kids and is the most competitive undergrad program in the US.

I would say to apply EA to some safety schools and then apply RD for all your reach schools as you need the time to improve your stats.

@rdeng2614 whoops sorry for giving wrong info! just going by what ive heard thanks for correcting
