Mac for Electrical Engineering?

Hey everyone. I'm an incoming Fall 2014 freshman and my major is Electrical Engineering.

I am planning on buying myself a new computer for school, and because I'm an iOS developer my best option is a MacBook Pro (Currently use a Mac Mini + Windows Laptop at home and syncing files between computers is awful..even with GIT)

I was wondering if going through EE with a Mac is fine or if it is too much of a pain and I will have to BootCamp or VM windows on my Mac?

I've been reading about this and apparently a lot of universities allow students to login to a remote server with pre-installed university applications and do whatever it is they need there.

Do UCSD's ACMS Virtual Computing Labs offer such a service? Say at some point I will need to use SolidWorks for a project; Can I run SolidWorks on ACMS or will I have to BootCamp/VM my Mac?

Macs aren't cheap and I am buying this one myself so any advice/info on this topic is really appreciated!
