Simple Question...
Should I get a Mac or PC for Accounting and Finance.

I'm going to guess a PC just because almost everybody in the business world uses a PC. But I thought I would ask just to be sure before I shell out all this money for a new computer.

I know people think Macs are easier to use and they are more fun to look at and all the stuff, but I really just want the computer that will run all of the software that the school requires properly.

Thanks

inb4 mac vs pc

mac if you want to be a hipster, pc if you want something practical and less expensive.

a lot of the excel plugins, plus stat software like sas and matlab, work much better on a pc.

Well I understand your bias against Mac owners being hipsters its a little irrelevant.

Anyways…
Is it even possible to own a mac and be able to use all of the software? Because I know many programs are exclusive to Pc.
What would really be helpful is if anybody has a link that could direct me to a part of the Business School’s Website that discusses this topic.

Technology Requirements

Faculty members expect that students have laptop or notebook computers. Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to purchase laptop or notebook computers prior to enrollment in the program. Laptops will allow students to take full advantage of emerging opportunities using wireless technology. Additionally, a laptop will be an essential tool that you will use throughout your time at GW and beyond. While there are excellent computing facilities available within the University, pressure on these resources means that access to a computer will not be available at all times.

Regarding whether students should purchase a Mac or a PC, please be advised that the coursework uses Microsoft Excel extensively, especially in analytical courses. Students with Macs should consider installing Windows XP or higher with MS Excel 2003 or higher through Bootcamp or a virtual machine software like Fusion or VMWare. You will be required to use data analysis add-ins in Excel that are not available on Office for Macs. Students are responsible for purchasing all necessary software.
