I've noticed a lot of the tasks needed prior to move in are set up to be completed via PC and not Mac. Will students run into the same issues once they arrive on campus? My son has a MacBook Pro. Will it be easier for him to have a PC? I hope not as he loves his Mac! He has the MS Office suite on there, etc. Thoughts?

He shouldn’t run into any problems, but if he is in the Business School, he will need to be able to run Windows so he will have to add the Parallels software or use one of the computers in the bschool for those assignments that require it. S1 chose to get a PC for that reason, but he still longs for a Mac. :)

Thanks Kat!

He’s in French/International Relations so hopefully it’ll be fine!

He will have zero problem with a MAC since he has Liberal Arts majors. The vast majority of his usage will be Word and using the Internet. Possibly some graphics/presentation programs as well, but of course MAC is great for those.

I just assumed that a Mac is not a problem and planned on getting S that for a graduation gift. He is a business major - should we reconsider???

Most people say that as long as he gets Windows for Mac, there is no problem. If he is used to Mac up to now, then it seems to me that it makes sense to stick with that. If he has been a Windows user so far, then a PC would definitely make more sense. IMO.

I’m a Mac user since 1984 so I’m a WEEEEEE bit biased…

VMWare Fusion is a good Windows option for the Mac (better than Parallels, I think) but these days it shouldn’t be needed too often.

Everyone at Tulane has a mac.

They say for Business you “need” a PC, but I’m pretty sure he just needs microsoft office.

I think, but am not sure, there are some very specialized business programs that only have a Windows version. No idea if that is still true, but if so that is why beside Office for Mac they also need Windows for Mac.

S2 has a MacBook Air and loves it. All his friends have Macs, so I believe they are quite popular at the school. He also has an iPad mini and typically gets electronic versions of his texts.
