<p>The Mac OS is based on Unix. I don't know why you would want to run linux on a mac machine.</p>
<p>And if you have to ask what linux is, you really shouldn't use it. Linux is meant mostly for power users who want complete and utter control over their OS. With Linux, you can mess with the kernals (basic OS componant that Windows doesn't let you touch) which you can screw up quite easily if you dont' know what you're doing. I would stick with mac or pc unless you know what you're doing.</p>
<p>Indeed, Icarus. Linux isn't really a good choice for inexperienced computer users.</p>
<p>To clarify a point by someone earlier that said "Macs are better quality than PCs", that isn't a valid statement. A Mac is a computer made by Apple, a PC is a generic type of computer that runs on windows that is made by one of many, many companies. While an Apple may be better quality than a cheap Compaq, it is certainly not better quality than a nice PC such as Falcon Northwest, etc.</p>
<p>As someone has said, figure out what programs, etc you will need to run and go from there.</p>
