I intend to apply for the Applied Mathematics and Statistics Major. Anyone who is pursuing it like to give me some views about it?
Is there a double major option in Macalester as well?
Zain, Macalester answers this question on their website. Google it.
Hello! Applied Mathematics and Statistics major here. First off, there is a double major option at Mac, and many make use of it (I was not a double major, AMS major and Computer Science minor for some background). Within the Math, Stats, and Computer Science department alone there are three major options: Mathematics, Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Computer Science, but of course you can double major with any other major offered at the school (as long as you plan your course schedule well to fill all your requirements). The MSCS department is an unbelievable community, super dedicated to building lasting relationships with students and inspiring them to learn and continue succeeding. I have been so lucky to be a part of it. At first, I did not know that I wanted to major in math when I came to Mac. I fell more and more in love with the subject as I progressed into more advanced courses, and I hope the same happens for you! All this being said, Macalester is a liberal arts college and something special about the school is that it truly strives to foster in students an appreciation for a variety of disciplines. So my advice to you is definitely start taking math courses when you arrive, but don’t forget about other departments! There are more opportunities here for learning than you could possibly have time for in four years. Good luck! Hope this answered your questions! Feel free to reach out to the professors for more info.

@MacAdmissions What is the career prospect in such a field?
Hello ZainSD! That would be a great question to direct towards the Math, Stats, and Computer Science department. I encourage you to contact them directly and get a conversation started. http://www.macalester.edu/academics/mscs/
The mathematics department at Macalester is amazing, I’m not even a math major and I’d say overall the department has the best professors at Macalester.
Mac is great. You also might want to look at St. Olaf, which is particularly strong in math for a LAC.
I was impressed with the math offerings, but my kid was underwhelmed when he visited for an an accepted student day. I think a lot depends on the individual student.
