I have decided on trying to reach for the Macaulay honors program at Baruch, but I see many waitlisted and even a 4.0 and 2010 SAT rejected. I understand that this is a top program and that ivy league students apply, and I at least want to know if I'm reaching too high.

Just took the SAT, and I was hoping that I could get an average range to be aiming for, since the average has been rising every year apparently. Might retake a few times if I have to.

Actually, can anyone tell me about someone who got in with a 3.45 unweighted (this year)?

I also heard that if the Macaulay program does not accept you, it is still possible to be in the Baruch university scholar program. If anyone was accepted to that program, can you explain to me the differences about it and post your stats?

Anyway, if you were accepted, be happy and celebrate! I know I would.
TY for reading.

My daughter had a 3.5 unweighted at a large public high school-ranked 24 out of almost 900. Lots of AP classes with 4s and 5. 2220 on the SAT’s, several subject area tests-740-760. He only big EC was theater (but it was all consuming). Her essays were good but I am guessing her interview was average. BUT she did do a summer program at Macaulay Honors last summer and that probably made her a shoe in. She also, when she took the SATs, got the 2220 the first time out of the gate.

3.96 uw, 4.33 w, 2180 SAT(2160~90, i just forgot), okay essay and one EC.
SATII: 800 MathIIC 800 Chem, 790 Bio

Well, one girl from my school got in with a 3.5, and she’s the VP of our student government…

just so you know, although my school does not have gpa’s, rankings or averages, i know that my average was NO WHERE near an A average. It was only senior year i earned straight A’s and i know that my average when applying to Macaulay was around a B+ (3.3 gpa?); however, they might have still accepted me because i go to a prestigious school.
so don’t doubt yourself!

I realize now that I missed your second question. Although I’m not too familiar with the process, I think at Baruch if you aren’t accepted into Macaulay, then they consider your for Baruch Honors (in which you get first choice classes, as well as other benefits that I’m unaware of). If you are not accepted into Baruch Honors, then you are considered for Baruch under general admissions.

Thanks for the replies! I’m probably going to retake the SAT, and hopefully it will offset my lower GPA. Hopefully. Seems it would help to take some more APs next year and sign up for some SATIIs.

My younger D was accepted to Macaulay two years ago. The girl she roomed with in her apartment was waitlisted for Macaulay, but admitted to the Brooklyn College Honors program.
