What are my chances for Macaulay Honors and (oh, why not) Ivy Leagues?

I'm a Caucasian Jewish female (oh my gawd you never see those in colleges)
Unfortunately I really don't have a "sob story" and I have a middle-class income

Teh Grades:
Yeah, so my SATs really suck T,T I prolly should of studied more lol
GPA: 99.7/100 rank is 8/750 (top 1.5%) in a public NYC high school
SAT I: 2070 (760 CR, 650 M, 660 W)
SAT II: Lit: 640 World History: 690 US History: 620 (ouchies)

APs and Honors
AP Computer Science (5)
AP Composition and Language (4)
AP Psychology (5)
AP Literature (dunno yet)
Honors everything, taking Chinese now too but honors isn't offered
weak courseload, I know. I had this really strict art teacher who wouldn't let us take time consuming APs (he would threaten to drop us from the portfolio art program) T.T and made us work after school and weekends for like 5 hours everyday. He also made us come in to work at school on vacations.

Awards:
Scholastic Arts Local Talent Winner in Visual Arts
AP Scholar (OH BOY)
Certificate of Merit in French language
NFAA Young Arts national merit award in Visual Arts (top 5% of 3,000 national applicants)
NFAA Young Arts regional award (judged to be "one of the most talented artists" in NY)
My senior thesis was nominated for some contest but I didn't hear back yet

Essays/Recs: Pretty good recs, both teachers adored me to death. Essays are extremely unique and well-written (or so I've heard, you really never know)

Extra Curricularz:
No, I didn't found my own non-profit organization. But....

Ok,
I'm applying to all the top art schools like RISD and MICA and have been "pseudo accepted", that is, they loved my portfolio at the reviews.
Art Schools, however, are RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE
and I'm not sure if I should limit myself to an all-art school
More importantly, my dream art school, Art Center is in California but I'm not allowed to go so far from NY yet. (they don't even have dorms there).

I'm thinking of expanding my horizons at Macaulay Honors College (through Queens College), a free ride, and then go to grad school in Cali.
Macaulay is a really awesome program, what are my chances?

I also absolutely love Yale, and I know I really don't have a great chance based on academics, but do you think my strength in the arts can pull me through?
I'm aiming for Brown/RISD dual degree and Columbia as well. They all have great art programs.

I'm hoping that my strong portfolio and my essays will help me stand out.

What are my chances? Thank You so much!!!! (First post btw)

I think you have a shot small shot at Yale… your SAT isn’t amazing compared to the rest of the pool, and you don’t have any huge hooks. That said though, your GPA and ECs look good- and definitely, definitely send in the art supplement, that could help you a ton. GL!

I’d disagree that you don’t have any huge hooks. Your art work is obviously very impressive. I also think chances at Yale are maybe 50% though because they don’t really look for the type of student that you are. Your SATs are below average, but not by much.

If they do accept you, you know they’re trying to broaden their horizons, so to speak, on their student type. If they don’t, don’t be surprised.

Good luck though!

So funny to read your post–My D was exactly in your place last year, only she went ahead and applied to all the art schools believing that she’d go. She got into RISD, MICA, etc. (basically everything she applied to), but as you say, they cost a FORTUNE. RISD offered nothing except loans, as in, “Congratulations, you can borrow $55,000 per year!” but MICA offered a generous fifty percent scholarship, but this was still quite expensive. Anyway, she decided in the midst of all this that she was focusing too early on the art and wanted to for her MFA rather than BFA, and use her undergrad time to explore all her interests, not just art. So she waited a year (she’s been at home, she works 25 hours/week), and now has just finished applying. Macaulay was one of the schools she applied to. She did have an impressive arts portfolio that she did send it in to the schools, so we’ll see. Her stats might be a little better than yours, but just a little (800 CR, 740 W., 620M ), mid 700s for the SAT II’s, 4’s and 5’s for five AP’s. She also has won first place in a few art and writing awards. Anyway, I can keep you posted as far as how it turns out. We’re very nervous because money is the deal breaker for us. We just cannot afford mega loans and in this economic climate I don’t believe she should take out more than, say, $5K total, if that. Best of luck with your decision. But wait–are you a senior or a junior? If a senior, you’re past the deadline for Macaulay close to the deadline for all other schools. ANyway–good luck; you sound grounded and you should do well.

You have an intense passion for art, and your stats are not overly low. You have good AP grades too!

Yale- reach, but you could be accepted.
Brown/RISD- Low reach, Brown is very ecclectic
Columbia- Mid. Reach- the college is fairly competitive.

Good Luck!
