MacBook Air or Pro for CS Major?

Well guys this question is pretty self-explanatory, I'm an intended CS major in the market for a new laptop and was wondering which of the two was the better choice

Windows? ;)

jk, I think a Pro would be well suited for a CS major considering more USB ports and better laptop overall.

But you have to consider that you can’t get Visual Studio on a Mac.

If you need more storage and better display, go for the Pro.

But the Air is sufficient.

My D, this year an EECS senior, has a Pro, but it is because she needs the Retina display for other tasks, not necessarily for school work. For power-intensive tasks (she works as an research assistance), she uses the laptop only as a terminal, logging in to the school’s systems. Sometimes she comes home and doesn’t bring her Mac, she uses my 5 yr. old Windows laptop.

You don’t need Visual Studio. Underneath Mac OS is a flavor of Unix. There are plenty of no cost applications. At work (a software development company), we have a mixture of Mac OS, Windows, and Linux machines. We buy Visual Studio for Windows but use open source compilers for other platforms.
