Macbook vs Macbook Pro

I'm planning to make the switch(finally) before coming to CMU. What do you guys suggest? Pro or non-pro? Is pro worth the extra $600 for a comparable processor with a bigger screen and a graphics card??

Thx in advance

Macbook Pro is quite overpriced in my opinion. Only the introduction of Intel Core 2 Duo in the future can justify its price tag.

yea the Macbook is a very good deal and no one really needs the bigger screen or extra features that come with the Pro

...on the other hand they are nice to have ;p

Sometimes you need that extra computing when you are trying to build a robot that can solve the rubic's cube

The MacBook offers better value for money than the Pro. The high-end Pro model is slightly faster than the fastest MacBook, but not really enough to justify the extra cost. Personally I'd be tempted to spring for the Pro just because of the bigger screen, but that's just me (I have a 17" PBG4 now).

If you get the MacBook, upgrade to 1 gig of RAM (it comes standard with 512 megs, which isn't really enough).

Switching = good, BTW.

??

Actually the MacBook Pro has many features that some people need, like Firewire 800 or performance video. Not to mention CAD users need a screen bigger then the 13 inch wide macbook screen. Not to mention that if you plan to run any kind of 3d application you'd definately not want a macbook. If you must get a macintosh and want to decide between the two systems you really should first look at what you are using them for.

i got a macbook, the macbook pro wasnt worth the extra 650$ for me, but then, it varies from person to person.

Macbook Pros (should) get updated processors in the coming month. But then again, the macbook may too...

The macbook pro has non-integrated graphics, is made of metal (not the pink-turning plastic of the macbooks), and has overall better specs. Up to you, I'd wait.

Just take a look at this before making the "switch":

Sylvania, I've seen pics of the apple service manual.....the amount of thermal grease they had put on their MBP's was totally hilarious. I mean it was so odd....such an obvious mistake....I mean anyone who has ever installed a heatsink would have caught it. The fact that they haven't commented on it is even more hilarious because it is such an obvious mistake. I considered an MBP and I would have been really pi**ed had I gotten one. Sales didn't really drop much either...hopefully they have a recall or something but I wouldn't hold my breath. The HP nc8430 offers faster hardware for less then an MBP and I chose one of those instead...highly recommended. The screen is higher res too.
