Maybe a read this wrong, or maybe I'm looking for the ego boost, but Maclean's ranked McGill 3rd most reputable school below Alberta and Waterloo...Any Canadians have anything to say about this (or correct about this...)?

macleans is faulty... as are all rankings... they have their interests

Alberta??? Waterloo does have a reputation when it comes to Engineering, CS and Math, but overall, it's not even close. Yeah, take the rankings, whatever they say, with a grain of salt.

/ for within CC Canadian university reputation, it's obviously McGill, followed by UofT then UBC, and after that, maybe by Queen's...

Why have I heard so many describe the prestige race amongst Canada's finest to be a three way tie between McGill, U T and Queens (with McGill lagging, by the way)?

(not my opinion, just an idea I've heard)

I blame Ontario. It's the most populous province in the country, sometimes it doesn't realize it isn't the entire country. Local prestige, customs and institutions are often wrongly infered to apply to the rest of the country. Queen's ain't so prestigious outside of Ontario.

/if Happy Planet apple juice was made in Ontario instead of BC, they'd call it "apple cider"...

So what is considered prestigious outside of Ontario? You're the first person to say that about Queen's, from what I've heard. Curious.

The usual suspects (McGill, UofT, and UBC, order varies), plus local schools mixed in (depending on the province, again, order may vary), and the occasional specialized school for specific fields (such as Waterloo, in CS, math and engineering). I'm not saying that Queen's ranks about the same as Ryerson outside of Ontario (obviously not), but I don't think it's in the top 3 everywhere.

/Reputation is a silly thing anyway.

I think one should be careful when reading Maclean's university rankings nowadays. They recently had that scandal where 11 schools refused to submit information for ranking because of disagreements over the ranking system. Also, as mentioned above, due to their base, they sometimes end up projecting and applying Ontario's point-of-view to the rest of the country.

Personally, I would suggest you look at all the schools you like, and go where you feel most comfortable.
