I’m trying to decide between taking AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics vs AP Microeconomics and Honors Computer Science III for my senior year schedule.
Honors Computer Science III is the course after AP Computer Science A at my school.
My Senior year schedule so far is
AP Physics C: EM
AP Physics C: Mech
Analysis (Set Theory course after Multivar Calc, Linear Alg, Diff eq, Complex Analysis etc.)
Academic English IV
Honors Wind Ensemble
Gym
(other 2 courses here)
Pros for Macro Micro
If I take both econs, it will be easier for me since they both go hand in hand.
Higher GPA with 2 APs vs 1 AP, 1 Honors.
Econ is interesting.
I already have Physics C as an engineering related course.
Cons for Macro Micro
I’m majoring in Comp Engineering so it makes sense to take a Comp Sci course.
I can still self study Macro and take the exam since Micro and Macro overlap.
Def take micro and macro. By taking both you complete AP Economics, plus they go hand in hand. Looks much more attractive on a transcript. And having taken both courses I can say they are really not too bad…
Actually, post-AP classes are more impressive than APs. I would take micro comp sci, since that’s what you want to major in. AP econ is considered an “APlite” so taking the comp sci class would be more rigorous.
For college admissions, AO’s will look more favorably on a rigorous schedules vs. GPA boost. Colleges understand that some schools weight some classes in a funky way.
@skieurope I’ve taken AP Calc BC, AP Stat, AP Chem, AP Physics C and AP Comp Sci. Are there any other APs I should take instead of Microecon that are STEM-related? Or should I substitute Microecon with something more humanities-related so that I don’t look too STEM-y and have a more balanced schedule.
Your choice. You said that econ was interesting to you. That is a more valid reason for you to take micro than that it’s an AP. If there is something more interesting to you, that would probably also be a valid choice.
