So I made it as a semi-finalist for Arizona. The cutoff was 213 and I got a 213. I've already taken the SAT twice and am done. Got a 2020 the first time, and a 2100 the second time. My GPA is a 3.7 weighted and 3.3 unweighted, which is not very impressive, I know. I have some good extracurriculars in that I've played AAA (highest level) hockey for basically my entire life, have volunteered at rinks and camps to help kids learn to skate, and have even done some English tutoring in the Czech Republic. Are these good enough? What are they looking for in Finalists? Thanks!

check the national merit webage. i believe your school has to submit something, they also have to submit your transcript, and you may(and I think you do) have to write an essay. but get on the NM page. Their info is more accurate than my memory. there are some tight deadlines on when things need to be submitted by so stay on top of that and make sure your school does to. and Congrats!

What that page won’t tell you is the effect your grades will have on the outcome. The weighting might not matter. If you have more than one C or lower, you might be out of luck. (This changes from year to year.)
